This double-sided blade sign with neon isn’t shy! 🙈

My favorite part of designing this sign was giving it rounded corners. (typically this type of blade sign has sharp 90-degree angles) The rounded corners create a stronger relationship with the logo type, making it more unified and balanced.

The darker the night, the brighter the sign!

In these photos you’re looking at :
- 1 custom acrylic blade sign internally illuminated with white LEDs. (6 illuminated sides!)
- 1 set of custom 3/4” inch thick acrylic letters stud mounted directly to the wall with spacers. I like using spacers because they create more visual dimension when the sun shines & casts shadows.

When my phone shows me “memories” (photos of my sign projects), I feel a rush of accomplishment and love… then the harsh reality slaps me right in the face!

Reality: “Mars, did you forget the struggles? The late, sleepless nights? deadlines? The expectations? The headaches, revisions, budgets, clients, unseen effort, uncertainty, meltdowns, panic attacks?!”

For me, nostalgia is a very tricky emotion. Every project is a win, but those small victories were born from a version of me that no longer exists.

The two memories don’t always match.
One is clean and perfect; the other is gritty and human.
It’s my bittersweet polarity. Warmth and weariness braided tightly together. 🖤

It’s important to me to keep my curiosity alive. I do it by bridging gaps between shop roles, learning new skills, and staying open to experimentation.
One of my favorite tools as a sign designer is an understanding of material science. It gives me flexibility! 😮‍💨

Even when a client’s budget is limited, it doesn’t fully restrict my creativity. By choosing economical materials, applying faux finishes, or rethinking how elements are combined, I can still design signs that are eye-catching, memorable and affordable.

I think of signs like cars in the sense that not everyone can afford a Lamborghini, but that doesn’t mean the only alternative is walking.
(…even though we can all use more cardio…am I right?)
