I have a thing I do at networking events. Instead of “so what do you do,” I ask: what brought you here today?
a few weeks ago I watched someone take that same energy somewhere I hadn’t thought to go. same question. completely different destination.
one pulled someone closer. the other pointed somewhere — and that somewhere was a solution.
turns out there’s a word for that: storyselling. and I’ve been teaching it for years without knowing what to call it.

five things that had my brain working overtime last month 🧠

a reel about third spaces, a TEDx talk on decolonizing the workplace, Better Call Saul (embarrassingly late, I know), Hoppers, and a conversation about ICE in our airports that I haven’t stopped thinking about.

everything worth consuming right now is asking the same question: who gets to belong, and who decides?

just gave us a master class in SYMBOLIC LEADERSHIP 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽

whether you’re a founder, creator, or public figure:
✨ how you show up matters.
🧠 visibility is a leadership tool.
🎯 silence is a statement.

we need more of this: people aligning their platforms with their values — and using culture as a tool for conversation.

what are your thoughts?

I’ve been thinking less about what Ramadan asks of me — and more about who it’s helping me become.

Not the “sunrise-to-sunset” part.
The “who-you-are-when-you’re tired” part.
The “who-am-I-now-that-it’s-ending” part.

Here’s a glimpse of the kind of reflection I share each week — personal, leadership-rooted, sometimes spiritual, always value-driven, no fluff.

✨ Drop “more” in the comments to keep reading. Because if this landed for you, there’s so much more where it came from.

Happy last Friday of Ramadan, may all your prayers be answered 🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾

✨ Learning isn’t linear. ✨

Let’s normalize:
➡️ Taking classes as adults to learn new skills and unlearn old patterns.
➡️ Stepping away from corporate to explore life as travelers, caregivers, business owners, resters.
➡️ Learning not just through books and workshops but through experiences — quitting a job, traveling, starting something new, or even just...playing in the waves. 🌊

*let’s normalize learning by being someone who does things.*

what are you learning right now that feels non-linear? 💕

📸 this photo is from 2 weeks ago at Griffith Park on the clearest day, I could see all the way to the ocean. The most obvious truth of today is that so many of our “leaders” - be that government or companies - absolutely SUCK. If you’re tired of living in a world that feels like a tornado fire, there’s no better to time to become the fierce, value-driven leader you wish existed in the world today. I’m sick to my stomach about g@za, the LA wildfires, the layoffs, the poor working conditions...the prioritization of profits over people *everywhere I turn.*

Leadership tips can sound like they are “fluffy” or “soft” or “optional”...but a lot of times, we experience life both personally and professionally as a result of leadership choices that *other people make*...whether we tune into them or not.

So, I know it sounds cheesy, but I really, actually believe that each of us can become a better leader. Leadership is a skill that we can learn, just like anything else. And if we want to see the world change, then I’d argue that this is the moment we need to *seize the fkn day.*

Here was my attempt this week to let go of a few big ideas, and embrace a few more big ones in the new year.

💡IN: clarity, collaboration, decentering capitalism, and telling your story.
❌ OUT: hustling aimlessly and going it alone.

✍🏽 I write a weekly newsletter where I share personal insights, stories, reflections, and tips on business growth and leadership. I focus on sharing my learnings as an entrepreneur & woman of color so that you don’t have to start from scratch in your leadership journey. My core belief system is rooted in collective liberation. This DM stopped me in my tracks. 🥹

I’ve been thinking a lot about what it means to create something that outlives you — or at least outlives the moment you were in it.

When I started Sukoon Active, my goal was simple: to create modest activewear that made Muslim women feel seen and empowered. It was like my first love, it taught me so much — about grit, community, and the joy (and heartbreak) of creating something from scratch.

But four years ago, I closed that chapter.

Even now, messages like this remind me that the vision I worked so hard to build continues to live on. Sometimes, the things we create take on a life of their own — and that’s where the magic is. ✨

To every creative, entrepreneur, or dreamer reading this: your work matters. Even when it’s messy, even when it doesn’t go as planned. You’re planting seeds that may grow long after you’ve moved on. 🌱

📩 Have you ever worked on something that still makes you proud today? Let me know in the comments — I’d love to hear 👇🏽👇🏽👇🏽
