This evening, the Tony Awards gave more attention and appreciation to understudies than I've ever seen. My first performance as Princeton/Rod was with 60 minutes notice and I'd only been given a single, 2 hour rehearsal for act 1 two months prior before mgmt dropped rehearsing me to train a new first call sub... Who was among 4 people sick that night.
