“You deserve better” is great dating advice.
Until it becomes the only dating advice you’re willing to hear. 😬
Because yes—you absolutely deserve a man who is consistent, emotionally available, respectful, communicative, and capable of building a healthy relationship with you.
But there’s a part of the conversation we don’t talk about nearly enough:
You also have to become really fu***ng good at choosing him.
And that requires more than knowing your worth, having high standards, setting boundaries, and being able to spot a red flag from three dating apps away. 🚩
It requires looking at your own dating patterns too.
Who are you attracted to?
Who do you give access to?
What behavior do you rationalize because you really like him?
Do you actually enforce your relationship boundaries—or just explain them beautifully before giving him another six chances?
Are you choosing based on compatibility, character, consistency, and emotional availability… or are you still letting chemistry do all the hiring? 👀
And when something goes wrong, can you look at your own communication, vulnerability, emotional availability, and behavior with the same level of scrutiny you’re giving his?
Because relationship accountability is not the same thing as blaming yourself for someone else’s sh*tty behavior.
His behavior belongs to him.
Your choices belong to you.
And one of the biggest parts of breaking unhealthy relationship patterns is learning to tell the difference.
You can spend years becoming more self-aware, understanding your attachment patterns, healing old relationship wounds, learning your standards, and figuring out exactly what you want in a partner.
That work matters.
But eventually, you have to take all that self-awareness out into the wild and actually date differently.
Choose differently.
Walk away differently.
Communicate differently.
Respond to red flags differently.
Stop giving potential more weight than patterns.
Because the goal of intentional dating isn’t simply becoming better at identifying emotionally unavailable men.
It’s becoming better at not choosing them. 💅🏼
And THAT is where your dating life actually starts to change.
