The ring-gear install and torquing technique everyone needs to know:

Step 1: Clean ring gear and differential
Step 2: Put differential in freezer overnight
Step 3: Heat ring gear @250*F for 20 min.
Step 4: Use oven mitts to put ring gear on differential
Step 5: Finger-tighten new ring gear bolts
Step 6: Take a break, let parts cool/warm
Step 7: Remove one ring gear bolt
Step 8: Apply four drops of red thread lock
Step 9: Reinstall bolt
Step 10: Put torque wrench on bolt
Step 11: Align a long square pry bar between two ring gear bolts
Step 12: Using the pry bar to stop the diff from twisting, torque ring gear bolt to 1/3 final torque spec. Mark bolt torqued with “I”
Step 13: Torque each bolt using a crisscross pattern
Step 14: Make a second pass and torque each bolt to 2/3 final torque spec, mark bolts torqued with “II”
Step 15: Make a third pass and torque each bolt to the final torque spec, mark bolts torqued with “III”
Step 16: Verify each bolt is torqued to final spec, mark bolt heads with “X”
