The New Year is a good time for assessment. We worked on this exercise during our last CME training of 2021. I call it Nine Questions (©2021 Mediation Training Network and Elinor Robin) These questions are designed to give you a deeper look into your business and yourself. Some of the questions may be familiar, but don’t get complacent. If an answer comes easily, you may just be touching the surface. Keep pushing. Please be brutally honest with yourself. If you take away new insights, this exercise was a success.
1. What motivates you? Funding your kids? Having a second home? Sheer pride? Is there a motivation, or are you on autopilot? Dig deep and find your authentic/genuine response.
2. Are you burned out?
3. What differentiates you from your competition? Do you deliver lower price (Wal-Mart), better design (Apple), instant gratification (Google), or some other tangible benefit? If someone says they have no competition, they are being naïve or silly. Every business has direct and indirect competitors. (Indirect competitors may not offer the same product/service but they solve the same problem.)
4. Who is your ideal customer/client? What is your ideal customer’s demographic – age, gender, income level? What is your ideal customer’s motivation, problem, pain?
5. Who is your role model?
6. Do you have the right people around you? In your personal or professional life, who should you get rid of? Who do you need to find?
7. Are you thinking big enough?
8. Do you owe anyone an apology?
9. What’s on your agenda for the upcoming year? How do you want things to be different (in your personal or professional life) in 2022?
