5 Marketing Trends I’m Seeing Firsthand in 2026 (With Data)
A few years ago, a marketer's day looked simple.
→ Research keywords
→ Write content
→ Build backlinks
→ Track rankings
→ Repeat
That was the playbook.
Today, that same marketer is doing something completely different.
→ Tracking AI citations instead of just rankings
→ Optimizing for ChatGPT and AI Overviews
→ Building automated workflows with AI agents
→ Monitoring brand mentions across the web
→ Creating systems that work while they sleep
I've spent years in marketing.
Long enough to see social media explode.
Long enough to see mobile transform search.
Long enough to hear dozens of "this changes everything" predictions.
Most didn't.
This one feels different.
For the first time, we're not adapting to a new platform.
We're adapting to a new way humans find information.
A few years ago:
User → Google → Website
Today:
User → ChatGPT → Answer
Or:
User → Google AI Overview → Answer
Or:
User → Reddit → Community Insight
The journey is changing.
And naturally, many marketers are asking:
"Will AI replace us?"
I don't think so.
Because while AI can generate content...
It can't replace experience.
It can't replace judgment.
It can't replace the ability to understand people.
The marketers who win in 2026 won't be those with the most AI tools.
They'll be the ones who know:
→ What questions to ask
→ What insights matter
→ What content deserves to exist
→ What problems customers are trying to solve
AI is changing marketing.
That's undeniable.
But the real opportunity isn't replacing marketers.
It's helping great marketers become exponentially more effective.
Years from now, we'll probably look back at this moment and realize we were witnessing one of the biggest shifts in marketing history.
The question isn't whether change is coming.
The question is:
→ Are we ready for it?
