We had an incredible time representing ABE at the LA Maker Faire x City of STEM. Being surrounded by innovators, creators, and curious minds reminded us why we’re so passionate about STEM education. From hands-on activities to inspiring conversations, it was amazing to connect with the community and share what we do.

From high school chemistry student to UCLA organic synthesis researcher 🔬✨

Amaar’s journey into STEM began with curiosity in 11th grade and grew through mentorship, community, and opportunity. After starting in the biotech program at Pierce College and volunteering at Saturday Workday, he found his passion not only in organic chemistry—but in mentoring the next generation.

Now a Biochemistry major at UCLA conducting research in Professor Neil Garg’s lab, Aamar is helping develop new methods in organic synthesis while inspiring students to pursue their own paths in STEM.

His advice?
“Don’t rush and don’t compare yourself to others. It only limits what you’re capable of.”

Welcome to our ABE Teacher of the Month Spotlight, where we recognize outstanding educators from across the greater Los Angeles area who demonstrate a strong and consistent commitment to STEM education.
Today, we are pleased to feature an educator who has inspired several thousand students in the fields of Chemistry and Biotechnology. His career reflects a rare combination of industry expertise and classroom dedication. Before entering education, he worked for many years at Amgen, where he managed a clinical biomarkers genomics group as a practicing scientist. He later transitioned into teaching at Foothill High School, bringing real-world scientific experience directly into his classroom.
As a CTE educator, he plays an important role in preparing students not only for academic success, but also for future careers in STEM fields. His contributions have been recognized by his school community, including coverage in The Foothill Dragon Press.
It is our privilege to acknowledge his meaningful contributions to science education and to celebrate the positive impact he continues to have on his students. You can watch Mr. Baker's video on our Youtube or on our Website's News.

We’re showing our appreciation with a delicious lunch sponsored by Amgen, highlighting outstanding educators from each distribution site, and offering a behind-the-scenes campus tour. Our teachers traveled from across Greater LA—from Channel Islands to Fullerton—to join us for this special day!
