Twenty years.

That’s how long this beautiful woman, Stephanie, has been part of the Demetria Wine Society.

The funny part? She wasn’t even headed here.

She was on her way to a neighboring winery when Sandra, the matriarch of the Demetria family, stopped her and said, “You need to follow me. You need to come try my wine.”
Stephanie remembers every detail. The table tucked beneath the big window on the left side of the tasting room. Sandra opening a bottle. Sharing a glass together. And, as they say, the rest is history.
There’s something about this place that feels different. It’s not just the wine. It’s the way people make you feel.

I walked in to capture another beautiful weekend on the mountain, and Stephanie welcomed me with that very same warmth. I pulled up a chair, listened to her story, and before I knew it, I had been sitting there for the longest time, completely wrapped up in conversation.

We throw the word “European” around a lot these days. I just came back from Italy, where long lunches turned strangers into lifelong friends. We still check in with one another every week.

That’s exactly what this reminded me of.

It’s beautiful. It’s refreshing. And somehow, tucked away at the top of this mountain, it’s exactly what Demetria has created.

There is something incredibly special about watching the next generation step into a family legacy.

Jack Zahoudanis recently graduated with honors from Arizona State University’s W. P. Carey School of Business with a degree in finance, but if you’ve spent any time at Demetria, you’ll quickly realize his greatest asset isn’t found on a diploma. It’s the way he carries himself. The smile that welcomes you. The light in his eyes. The genuine curiosity to learn every corner of the vineyard from the ground up including harvest 2026 fast approaching.

In Greek culture, family is everything. Legacy isn’t simply inherited. It’s lived through shared meals, hard work, respect for those who came before you, and the quiet moments that shape a life.

As the tasting room wrapped up for the day, Jack mentioned he was headed to his bubbles home (Sandra) just a hop and a skip away for pork chops and applesauce. Something about that stayed with me. It was such a simple moment, yet it captured everything Demetria feels like. A place where generations gather, stories are passed around the table, and the family behind the wine is just as beautiful as the wine itself.

Jack is just beginning to write the next chapter. And if you ask me, it’s already a beautiful one.
