Before attempting to operationalize diversity, equity and inclusion (DE&I) concepts in the workplace, we believe it is important to have a foundational understanding of the terminology involved.
In our experience working with organizational leaders, there is often confusion differentiating between some of these terms.
In addition to conflating equity with equality and missing the importance of accessibility, a few terms continue to get left out of DE&I workplace strategies: belonging and justice.
When executing strategies on a macro level, we believe it is crucial to continue visiting and having these level setting, DE&I fluency conversations with leaders.
Today, we want to focus on the core term: diversity.
