Shipped Side Boom to a sound mixer in Japan today.

By repositioning the factory (bottom) connector, the Side Boom protects the XLR connector from resting directly on the floor.

If you've got a Sound Devices 8-Series mixer/recorder (833, 888, or Scorpio), you may have been excited when they added support for "Daylight Mode" for the display. Unfortunately, glare can still be an issue when working outside, so I've designed a sun shade for keeping glare off the screen. This is available as a physical product (an early prototype appears below)... ...or as a downloadable STL file.

Location Sound in the modern day demands at least some proficiency with wireless transmitters and receivers. We are almost always using wireless systems on talent; we regularly need to send scratch audio to cameras; we sometimes have producers or directors asking for wireless monitoring; and if we're wirelessly booming, we generally don't want to be hard-wired for monitoring (especially if we're working solo)....

My new go-to lav setup for a polo shirt.

I like the thickness of the Viviana square pads, and place a COS-11 directly on the top. I cover this with Bubblebee square fur cover, which protects the mic, provides a bit of wind protection, and also mimimizes clothing rustle between layers of fabric.

Then, I loop the cable under and stick it on the back of the Viviana pad. This isolates vibrations along the length of cable from the mic element. To help keep the cable in this position, I cover it with Bubblebee double-sided tape squares, which will then hold everything to the shirt.

In place, it’s secure and quiet, all day long.
