IQS Research Founder and President Shawn Herbig joined the Rock n' Roll Research Podcast to talk about 27 years of IQS Research, from our start in automotive quality research to the work we do today helping organizations understand the people their programs serve.

Shawn also shares how AI is changing the way skilled researchers work with open-ended data, why he's concerned about growing skepticism toward quality research, and how a researcher's mindset carries over into launching a second business.

We attended Feeding Kentucky's Hunger Action Month Kick-Off yesterday morning, joining anti-hunger leaders and advocates from across the Commonwealth.

Held every September, Hunger Action Month is a national push to raise awareness of hunger and rally people toward action. Today's kick-off brought together voices from child nutrition, food distribution, agriculture, and public policy to look at the progress made and the work still ahead.

We worked alongside Feeding Kentucky on the Kentucky Hunger Study, which gathered thousands of responses from Kentuckians facing hunger. We are grateful for partners like Feeding Kentucky doing the work of turning insight into impact.

At IQS Research, the work starts with listening.

As a research and insights company, IQS helps organizations understand how people navigate tough situations, from choosing child care to accessing services around food insecurity or homelessness. But for President & Founder Shawn Herbig, the work is not just about collecting data. It’s about making sure people are actually heard.

“I think one of the ways that we care for people and sort of hopefully help elevate them is just by creating a space that their voice can be heard,” Shawn shared. That commitment shows up in the details. IQS works to represent people’s voices without filtering them through assumptions, opinions, or outside interpretations. As Shawn put it, the goal is to understand the world “through their eyes, through their lips… without judgment.”

And when hard decisions show up, his answer is clear: “You can always make more money, but you can't always recover your reputation. Hard stop.”

That’s business beyond profit.

Good research doesn't end at the final report—it drives action.

We are proud to have partnered with Feeding Kentucky on the Kentucky Hunger Study, a statewide effort to better understand the barriers experienced by Kentuckians facing hunger. Over 4,000 responses were collected across multiple modes, including on-site interviews, paper surveys, and online surveys.

Feeding Kentucky has transformed that data into an interactive public dashboard, allowing anyone to explore findings by age, household size, income level, and more. This is research doing exactly what it should: informing the public and driving meaningful change. We are honored to be part of it.

Food insecurity affects all of Kentucky, and Feeding Kentucky is doing outstanding work to help address this issue. This morning, IQS Research joined their Hunger Action Month kickoff event and helped stuff food boxes for distribution.
