He began racing in 1980 riding an average of 12,000 miles and 50 races per year as a junior, Elite and master level rider. This equates to approximately 1500 days of racing and 550,000 miles of training/riding. Curtis's resume include 2 Masters World Championships, 42 US Masters National Championships, 4 US Elite National Silver medals and many other wins on both the road and track. He founded and
is the current co-director of the Texas Roadhouse Cycling team. Along the way he was fortunate to have trained and raced with/against some of the best cyclists in the world. He was also fortunate to have been coached by some of the top names in the sport along the way. Additional qualifications include: a level 3 USAC coaches license, time working with both Wenzel coaching and Carmichael Training Systems as a pro coach and the GM of the Louisville CTS center. Now that he is on his own he plans to bring a more hands-on approach to coaching than was possible before.
