Leadership and the Power of “Constancy of Purpose”
One of the greatest lessons I’ve learned about leadership and success is the principle of *constancy of purpose*. It’s not just a wealth-building strategy; it’s a cornerstone of effective leadership.
Years ago, in the late ’90s, I found myself in an AOL chatroom called the *Millionaires Group.* After observing for a while, I asked the question that many of us wonder: *“What does it take to be a millionaire?”*
Their answer was simple yet profound: *“Have constancy of purpose and work 80 hours a week.”*
At the time, I didn’t fully understand the depth of this. But later, while reading James 1:4-8, I saw the connection:
*“But let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing.”*
When I studied the word *patience,* I discovered it translates to *constancy of purpose.* In leadership terms, it means having a clear vision, staying focused on your mission, and being steadfast, no matter the distractions or challenges.
As a leader, you set the tone for your team. If you’re double-minded—wavering between priorities or lacking clarity—your team will feel like a ship tossed by the wind, unsure of its direction. But when you lead with *constancy of purpose*, you inspire confidence, discipline, and momentum.
Great leaders:
- Define the purpose clearly. Everyone on the team should know the *why* behind the work.
- Model consistency. Your actions and focus set the standard.
- Stay the course. Even when it’s tough, finishing the task builds trust and long-term success.
Leadership isn’t just about doing the work—it’s about leading others to fulfill a shared purpose with patience and perseverance.
So, ask yourself: Do you lead with *constancy of purpose*? Are you staying true to the vision, even when the path gets hard?
True leaders build wealth—in character, in impact, and yes, even financially—by embodying this principle every day.
