Please don't make supporting Black-owned businesses a fad.

We saw it happen during COVID through 2022(Protests).

Many people suddenly became vocal about buying Black, supporting Black, and investing in Black communities. While I appreciated the attention, I watched closely because those were also the years that 502 Black Business Week and 502 Black Eats Week experienced their greatest growth.

But support for Black businesses shouldn't only happen when a tragedy occurs, when racial tensions are high, or when people want to make a statement. It shouldn't be an afterthought or a performative response because now we need to prove the power of our $1.8 trillion spending power.

The reality is that Black businesses need support when the headlines fade. They need support when it isn't trending. They need support when nobody is watching.

That's why I started 502 Black Business Week in 2018. Not because it was popular. Not because corporations were issuing statements. Not because it was the thing to do.

I started it because I already knew what we were capable of.

I knew our community had talented entrepreneurs, amazing restaurants, innovative creators, and businesses worthy of investment. I knew then that if we intentionally supported one another, we could create opportunities, jobs, wealth, and legacy.

What's happening right now should be a reminder, not a moment.

Support Black-owned businesses because you value them. Support them because they're part of your community. Support them because economic empowerment matters.

Not just when it's trending. Every day.

BTW. My nail tech been Black.
