Milk line season is here and corn will still need water through filling. Scouting is not over until sufficient moisture is in the soil for finishing the crop. Whether its clay or sand, no stopping until milk lines are where they need to be based on soil type, conditions and milk line movement. No stopping after labor day or 16 weeks here!

Fireflies are out which means rootworms are too! Last week they were hatching, this week they are small larvae and will start feeding on roots shortly. Yes, even your triple stack corn, nothing is safe anymore without chemical. Get out and dig, examine upper root ball and brace roots for feeding.

Soil sampling season is here, much needed moisture we recieved last week soaked nicely. Top foot is mellow with adequate moisture on irrigated ground, no drill needed yet. Intensive biological sampling has proven again this year to increase or maintain yield goals with lower input costs and I don't charge extra, it's part of my program! Lightning bugs have been out and it's end of June which means rootworm larvae are out! Unfortunately reminding us triple stack traits are a new flavor of edible roots instead of a control method across all companies.
