To our community,
As of this morning, LVFD only has 14 entries for the Fourth of July Parade. When we set out to plan this parade, we came to an agreement with other county agencies that LVFD needs 30 entries to make this parade happen. In recent discussions with these agencies, it has been decided that if we do not have 30 entries by June 19 - we cannot move forward with the parade.
I understand this is upsetting news, but I want to write a little on what it takes to pull this event off. It relies volunteers to cancel plans, spend time away from their families, line up childcare on a holiday, and spend money on gas/food for themselves. These volunteers have to be on site starting around 3 pm. A majority of these volunteers are then asked to immediately go to the high school to begin setting up for the firework show. This means that volunteers will be away from their families from 3 pm until 10 or 11 pm. Last year, we had about 30 volunteers, from various agencies, on shift for the parade and fireworks.
As President of Lovingston Fire Department, I am asking the community to show up and help us make this parade a reality. Without your parade entries, we will need to shift our sole focus to ensuring the firework show goes off with a bang.
Thank you for your continued support of Lovingston Volunteer Fire Department. It means the world to us.
Sincerely, Jade Ashley Bunner

We humbly ask that everyone continue to be careful when burning, do not burn on windy days, and ensure you have it under control. Today honors the Allied forces who shared in the invasion of Normandy on June 6, 1944 during World War II. Remember D-Day. Teach your children about it. Inspire the next generation to love America. πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ

The D-Day operation of June 6, 1944 brought together the land, air, and sea forces of the allied armies in what became the largest amphibious invasion in military history. D-Day put the Allies on a decisive path toward victory in Europe. Beginning with the Normandy beaches, they pushed back against Axis forces until Germany was forced to surrender less than a year later. These achievements were not accomplished without tremendous sacrifice, however, as the Normandy invasion resulted in over 6,000 American casualties.

Across the country, the National Park Service helps tell the story of our nation during World War II. From Pearl Harbor to U-boats in the Atlantic, to D-Day, V-E Day, and the war's atomic end; explore the stories of America's WWII experience in a national park. Memorial Day, which honors those who died in defense of this country, can be confused with Veteran's Day, which honors all Veterans who served this country. Today can be a difficult day for Veterans and families who remember their friends/loved ones. Please take the time today to remember those who paid an unimaginable price for their country.

If you remember an individual who gave their life for our country, please comment their names below so that our community can remember them as well.

We understand this rain is helping our county (and state), BUT we are still in a drought. Be aware when burning and have water on standby should things get out of control.
