The project to expand the footprint of Lowell Community Charter Public School continues this week with crews seen removing bricks from the former mill building’s smokestack in order to reduce it to a safer height.

Today marks 25 years since the tragic events of September 11, 2001, changed our nation forever. That morning, 2,977 people lost their lives.

On that day, ordinary men and women, many of whom may never have expected to be called upon to demonstrate the full extent of their courage, showed us the true meaning of heroism. When others may have run from danger, these brave individuals ran toward it. Their courage embodied the American spirit.

In 2026, our nation often feels more divided than ever. Today, let us remember not only what happened on the morning of September 11, 2001, but also what happened in the days that followed.

In the words of former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani:
“The attacks of September 11th were intended to break our spirit. Instead we have emerged stronger and more unified. We feel renewed devotion to the principles of political, economic, and religious freedom, the rule of law, and respect for human life. We are more determined than ever to live our lives in freedom.”

Let us remember how we came together following the horrific events of September 11, 2001, and honor the memory of those who lost their lives that day and in its aftermath.

S&R is on site beginning demolition at a location that was famously home to a historic flower and garden center for 24 years before the company relocated.

Now, this well-known property is preparing for its next chapter.

The site is undergoing a major redevelopment that will transform the property into an upscale, five-story senior living and assisted living community.

We’re proud to play a role in transforming a property with such a recognizable history and forging the way forward for what comes next.
