S&R Corporation

S&R Corporation S&R Corporation is a contractor specializing in construction, environmental, and demolition Brothers, Steven and Roger Ploof founded S&R Corporation in 1987.

The company started as a small demolition business wrecking mostly single and multi-family dwellings as well as small commercial buildings. During S&R's early years, Steven and Roger worked full time in the field, operating equipment, driving trucks and laboring in addition to working part time in the office to establish the business. By the mid 1990's, S&R had grown significantly and had served a

s prime contractor on many public projects. That growth brought changes in the roles of the company's two principals. Steven's full time focus turned to managing projects and business development. Roger worked full time on managing the company's resources and executing the projects. In 1998, the desire to continue steady growth and to diversify, manifested itself in the founding of S&R's construction division. The new division's growth mirrored that of the company's demolition division and what started with small civil projects quickly expanded to include multi-million dollar transportation contracts with S&R as the prime contractor. Today, S&R Corporation is a successful general contactor specializing in demolition, construction and environmental services for clients in both the public and private sectors. The majority of the company's work is acquired through competitive bids, negotiated contracts and emergency work. Resources and expertise within S&R have grown significantly since 1987, as has our strong relationships outside the company with specialty subcontractors, engineers and material suppliers. Collectively, these resources extend and reinforce the capabilities of S&R to meet the needs of nearly any project from concept through completion.

Transforming infrastructure while restoring natural ecosystems is not as easy as we make it look.

S&R Corporation is proud to have led the dam removal, river diversion, and site work operations at the River Street Dam in Acton, Massachusetts. This complex project required careful planning, environmental stewardship, and precise ex*****on to safely remove aging infrastructure while maintaining river flow throughout construction.

The brook was permanently redirected to a reconstructed stream channel designed to mimic natural river conditions. This helps restore fish passage, improve aquatic habitat, reduce flood risk, and return the river to a more natural flow regime once the dam is gone.

From river diversion measures to large-scale earthwork and site restoration, our team is committed to delivering solutions that improve public safety, enhance aquatic habitat, and support the long-term health of the watershed.

Projects like this showcase the expertise, dedication, and craftsmanship that define S&R's work every day.

In today’s construction environment, efficiency, accountability, and communication matter more than ever. That’s why having demolition, abatement, and site work all managed under one contract creates a major advantage for project owners and general contractors alike.

At S&R Corporation, our integrated approach allows projects to move seamlessly from hazardous material remediation to structural demolition, into complete site preparation, without the delays and coordination challenges that often come with managing multiple subcontractors.

Benefits of a single-source approach include:

✅ Streamlined scheduling and faster project ex*****on
✅ Improved safety coordination across all phases
✅ Reduced administrative burden and contract management
✅ Clear accountability from start to finish
✅ Better cost control and fewer unforeseen conflicts
✅ Enhanced communication between field teams and clients

When one experienced team oversees the entire early-phase construction process, projects gain momentum, risks are reduced, and owners can focus on the bigger picture.

As projects continue to grow in complexity, integrated contracting solutions are becoming not just beneficial — but essential.

S&R Corporation is proud to continue progress on the Chelmsford-Lowell Bridge Bundle Replacement Project, a major infrastructure improvement running from April 2025 through August 2028. This project includes the replacement of two key bridges over I-495 in Chelmsford: Westford Street and Route 3A (Gorham Street).

We have successfully completed demolition of the existing bridge over I-495, and we are currently excavating at the west abutment on Westford Street. Crews are also installing forms and reinforcement steel for the east abutment footing.

Over the next several months, work will continue on the substructure, including footings and abutment walls, before moving into earthwork preparation for the upcoming structural steel installation.

We’re proud of our progress and committed to delivering safe, efficient, long-lasting infrastructure improvements for the community.

As Safety Week comes to a close, it's important to remember the goal is not to catch mistakes in order to discipline, but rather to save lives and mitigate risks. No one should ever feel as though they are scared to report a situation for fear of the repercussions.

At S&R Corporation, safety isn’t just a priority; it’s a responsibility we carry into every phase of every project.

This Safety Week 2026, we’re reinforcing a simple but critical message: Respect the Plan.

Every job starts with a plan designed to protect our people and eliminate risks. Most importantly, to eliminate the “Stuff That Can Kill You” (STCKY) hazards like falls, struck-by incidents, electrical exposure, and heavy equipment movement.

But a plan only works if it’s followed, challenged, and adapted when conditions change.

That means:

✔️ Speaking up during pre-task planning

✔️ Owning Stop Work Authority when something feels off

✔️ Reassessing and replanning when the jobsite shifts

✔️ Never taking shortcuts, no matter the pressure

Real safety culture is built on respect, respect for the work, the process, and most importantly, each other.

At the end of the day, nothing matters more than making sure every member of our team goes home safe.

All in. Together. Recognize. Respond. Respect.

We are HALF WAY through Safety Week.

At S&R Corporation, Safety Week isn’t just a conversation but a commitment.

Today, our teams took part in the National Safety Stand Down to Prevent Falls, focusing on one of the most persistent and preventable hazards in our industry.

Falls continue to account for a significant percentage of construction-related injuries and fatalities. Still, the reality is, nearly all of them can be prevented with the right planning, protection, and mindset.

This year’s discussion reinforced a simple but critical message:

There are NO SHORTCUTS when it comes to safety.

From always staying tied off near exposed edges, to keeping both feet firmly inside lift platforms, and speaking up when something doesn’t look right. Every decision matters; the small choices made in “just a minute” can have life-altering consequences.

At S&R, we live by the mindset:
Recognize. Respond. Respect.

We recognize hazards before they become incidents.
We respond by doing the job the right way every time.
We respect one another enough to speak up and look out for our teammates.

Because at the end of the day, the goal is simple:
Everyone goes home safe to their families, the same way they arrived

At S&R Corporation, safety isn’t about reacting after something goes wrong; it’s about responding before it ever has the chance to.

This week, our teams are focused on what it truly means to RESPOND: building safety into every task through planning, communication, and control.

In construction, hazards are known—but how we prepare for them makes all the difference. That’s why our crews prioritize:

✔️ Up-front preplanning with safety built into the work

✔️ Direct controls: Eliminating, reducing, or isolating hazards whenever possible

✔️ Daily re-evaluation as conditions change

✔️ Open communication so team members understand the plan & their role

Because the strongest protection doesn’t come from PPE alone, it comes from how the work is designed, engineered, and executed from the start.

At S&R, we’re committed to going beyond compliance. We’re building a culture where safety is proactive, collaborative, and embedded in everything we do.

All In Together: Recognize. Respond. Respect.

At S&R Corporation, safety isn’t a box we check. Safety is the foundation of everything we do.

As we kick off Construction Safety Week 2026, we’re proud to stand All In Together with a focus on today’s theme: Recognize.

Every jobsite carries risk, but the difference is in how we see it. Recognizing high-energy hazards before work begins is what prevents serious injuries and saves lives. From gravity and mechanical movement to electrical exposure, the “stuff that can kill you” is always present, and we must be intentional about identifying it early.

This week, our teams are reinforcing a simple but powerful mindset:

What can go wrong?

What can we do right now to control it?

Because when hazards are recognized early and controls are in place, outcomes change. Incidents are prevented. People go home safe.

Equally important is how we communicate. Safety isn’t about complicated terminology; it’s about clear, direct conversations that every crew member understands and engages with. When our teams feel heard and empowered, safety becomes a shared responsibility, not just a policy.

At S&R, we believe strong safety cultures are built through awareness, accountability, and respect for the work as well as each other.

Let’s keep pushing forward. Let’s keep each other safe.

S&R Corporation was on site to celebrate the completion of a 0.9-mile extension of the Neponset River Greenway, running from Tenean Beach to Morrissey Boulevard. Efforts to improve the trail, which stretches approximately nine miles through the Readville, Hyde Park, Mattapan, and Dorchester neighborhoods of Boston, connecting to the Harborwalk and downtown Boston along the Neponset, began over a decade ago, and we are proud to be part of this major project.
This section of the Greenway features a 10-foot-wide paved surface, a new pedestrian crosswalk at Victory Road, and a 670-foot elevated boardwalk structure over the tidal salt marsh in Dorchester Bay. The new section also includes a large overlook deck with views of the bay and the Boston skyline.
