DON’T BECOME A VICTIM!
Hello to my Acreage family and friends. With a storm approaching in our direction, I want to bring attention to something that could be potentially life-threatening. Everyone knows that when we have these high wind gusts associated with storms there is an increased risk for downed power lines. Multiple times during my fire rescue career in the Acreage, I ran calls with downed power lines that were in contact with a fence. When this happens, it is extremely likely that the entire fence surrounding a property has become energized. On one occasion, not only was the entire fence surrounding a property energized, the neighbors fence was energized and the neighbors next to that fence was also energized. Basically, there were three properties where all the fences were connected to each other and all three became energized with deadly electricity. Your gate will be energized as well. Also, keep in mind with the heavy rains that we’ve been having our swales are going to have a significant amount of water in them. The roads are going to be saturated as well. A downed power line lying in a saturated swale or on a wet road can send deadly electrical currents through the water for great distances. If the power to your home is out, then there is a problem somewhere and it could possibly be a downed power line on your property. This message is not meant to scare anyone, but to make you aware and vigilant. I really do care for all our residents and want everyone to be safe, especially our children.
