This is why you need to have your machines serviced. The lint accumulation in this vintage Singer got in the gears and wore the teeth away. Feed dog gears, hook gears, all trashed.

I don’t say this lightly, but monofilament thread might have been invented by the devil. If not, it was totally someone who hated sewing machines. Here’s three yards I pulled out of one today!

Today, I had a phone call from a customer with an older Pfaff machine, where the screen was no longer visible. So, I thought I'd share this little trick with everyone. On the Pfaff Creative 2034-2058, 7550 and 7570, there is a small recessed little wheel that adjusts the screen's contrast. It's *very* easy to accidentally bump, because it's easily overlooked. It's actually pretty hidden. Look for a tiny wheel on the top of the machine, toward the right side, or tucked behind the stitch selection keys on the right. The good news is that, if your screen has gone dim, this is the most likely issue. The bad news is that these screens don't have "lights" in them. The screen *is* the light. If the contrast wheel doesn't fix it, we can put a new screen in!

When Charla was in Paris a few years ago, she stayed in the Hotel Fabric, which I thought was perfectly fitting. It used to be a textile factory, and they have this vintage Singer in their lobby.

Today, I’m remembering the time Charla made a dress out of Bernina bags and mini-blinds! This was for a project in one of her Apparel Design classes at Tech!

Check this out! You’re looking at the Pfaff Porsche and the Pfaff McLaren IMSA cars. While I’m not certain they’re related to the Pfaff Sewing machine company, I feel like it’s close enough. Regardless, it’s a plaid race car, which is cool.

Today with this monster, a Juki LG-158 double needle long arm industrial straight stitch machine with an outfeed mechanism. Replaced the safety clutch sprocket, timed the hook, set the needle bars, and set the feed dog eccentric. The head of the machine alone weighs 300lbs.

Tomorrow is “small business Saturday,” and I’d like to take a moment and highlight some of our favorites (other than Lubbock Sewing Machine Repair, that one is my overall favorite!)
Scarborough Fabrics and Designs - they’ve got you covered for all your quilting needs and they’re just lovely people.
Glindee Fragrances (glindee.com)- the only US distributor of some amazing niche Thai fragrances. They’re not local, they’re not remotely sewing related, but I’m obsessed.
H.G. Thrash Clothier- Lubbock’s source for high-end menswear. Their tailor is amazing and the owner is a super nice guy.
Quilting Inspirations and Sewing Instruction - The hardest working people in quilting. Elizabeth is a fellow scientist-turned-sewing-person, too.

As for us, we will start posting vintage machines for sale tonight and tomorrow!
So, if you’re on the hunt for a solid machine, shoot us a message and we’ll talk!
