Hurricane Isaias Update

Hurricane Isaias is still a Major Hurricane with wind speeds of 115 mph and moving north at 17 mph. The latest forecast has it making landfall between 7 and 10 pm tonight on the Florida coast near Navarre Beach. Our area is still under Tropical Storm watch. with winds 30-50 mph. The storm should move out of our area by Saturday mid-morning. Tree limbs and fallen trees along with loose debris will be a concern throughout the night being blown from strong winds. A curfew is in place for the City of Lucedale starting at 8 pm tonight through tomorrow morning at 7 am.

Empty sandbags are available at the EMA office in the basement of the courthouse.

Sand piles are being established at the county barns:

Beat 1 at 1199 Rocky Creek Road

Beat 2 at 7118 Highway 613

Beat 3 at 121 Mt. Pleasant Road

“Each year, we will collect anywhere from $15,000 to $20,000 that go among these fire departments to help put equipment on the fire trucks,” Gilbert said.

🚨🚨 Temporary Road Closure 🚨🚨

Tuesday July 7th
Location: George County Industrial Park

Evanston Road at Industrial Park Road (Vulcan Gravel Business Sign) will be temporarily closed Tuesday Morning (July 7) starting at 8 am for an emergency culvert repair. Traffic will be detoured on Tri-state road. County crews and heavy equipment will be working extremely close to the roadway.

Keep in mind that we're going to see heat indices above 100 degrees through the weekend throughout the state. Stay indoors in air conditioning as much as possible and check on elderly or sick neighbors. If you have to work outside, take frequent breaks in the shade and STAY HYDRATED. Remain mindful and do not leave people or pets in vehicles in this heat.

🚨🚨🚨Public Service Announcment 🚨🚨🚨

Hwy 26 W between Gyther Fairley Rd and Randys Dr will be closed as of today 6/19/2026. MDOT crews over the next few weeks will be making repairs to the washed out area. Please use alternate routes to navigate the area. MDOT crews have placed signs and electronic sign boards on Hwy 26 and Hwy 57 announcing the road closure. Williams Tire will still be accessible from the west side of the road closure.
