With 20-degree weather predicted for our area this weekend with even lower wind chills, we are sharing ways you can be safe while withstanding the cold.

️🔥 Use space heaters safely. Plug heaters directly into a wall outlet and keep them at least three feet away from furniture, curtains, and bedding. Space heaters use large amounts of electricity, so use them sparingly.

🔌 Avoid overloading outlets. Increased time indoors means more devices like TVs, gaming consoles, personal heaters, etc. will be used at the same time, so plug in high-wattage devices to separate outlets.

⚡ Fold electric blankets loosely and avoid tucking them under the mattress. Always unplug when not in use.

❄ Check your outdoor outlets, outlet covers, and outdoor cords for cracks or fraying. Extreme cold can cause any moisture inside to freeze, increasing the risk of damage.

Remember to check on your pipes, pets, plants, and most importantly, people, as we bundle up for another round of frigid weather!

Attention all homeowners with propane tankless water heaters! When temperatures go below freezing, allow the hot water side of your tankless water heater to drip into a sink (bathroom or kitchen) to prevent damage from frozen pipes. Also, let the cold water drip in another sink in the house. Additionally, if the tankless water heater is exposed on the outside of the house, wrap the brass fittings underneath the water heater. Note: With the water dripping, it shouldn’t cause the tankless water heater to come on and use any propane. Using these steps will help prevent damage to your pipes and tankless water heater.
