Tonight, this one hits especially close to home.
Many of you may not know this, but Medic Humor is a Kentucky-based business. Our page reaches first responders, families, and supporters across the country, but Kentucky is home.
And tonight, our home is hurting.
Kentucky State Police Trooper Hayden Phillips, Unit 369, was killed in the line of duty while patrolling I-65 in Warren County.
But behind Unit 369 was so much more than a badge.
He was a husband.
He was a daddy.
He was a son, a friend, a fellow trooper.
And he leaves behind a wife and three little boys who loved him.
Tonight, somewhere in Kentucky, a wife is facing a future she never imagined.
Three little boys are facing a lifetime without their daddy walking through the door.
And fellow troopers are grieving someone who stood beside them, wore the same uniform, and answered the same call to serve.
For those of us in the first responder community, losses like this are a painful reminder that behind every uniform is a family waiting for that person to come home.
So tonight, there aren’t jokes here.
Just prayers.
Prayers for his wife as she faces the unimaginable.
Prayers for those three precious boys as they grow up carrying their daddy’s love, memories, and legacy with them.
Prayers for his family, his friends, Post 3, Kentucky State Police, dispatchers, EMS, firefighters, law enforcement officers, and every first responder affected by today’s tragedy.
And a prayer that as those little boys grow older and learn more about the man their father was, Kentucky never lets them forget that their daddy mattered.
Tonight, we hold tightly to the words of Psalm 34:18:
“The LORD is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.”

May God be especially close to the Phillips family tonight.
May He surround a grieving wife when the silence feels unbearable.
May He hold three little boys when they miss their daddy.
May He strengthen the men and women who will put their uniforms back on and return to service while carrying the loss of one of their own.
And may He bring comfort where there simply aren’t human words big enough for this kind of heartbreak.
