Folks... Be cautious about what your eyes tell you when reading social media posts that have the air of legitimacy and authenticity.
Many, today , in fact, are wholly or partially written by AI. Now before we throw the baby out with the bathwater. All AI is not bad. Moreover,r it's here to stay and it will have an increasing presence in your life ( whether you want it to or not).
I have spent 30+ years in high tech and consider myself well versed in AI technology. But it's getting damn hard to discern between what's real and fabricated.
The digital sniff test is" if it seems too real to be real, then the content is likely fabricated. "
The legitimate goal is- of course- is to get more eyeballs to monetize page views. But, nefarious content often lurks below. And that's what you need to watch for.
Advice:
1. if you're in a Windows or Mac environment, always run commercially supported security/ antivirus software ( bit warden, Norton, McAfee, webroot).
2. If the email, website or text seems legitimate, but feels off. Don't click on the link (s). Phishing is the #1 preventable firm of malware insertion, password loss and financial loss.
3. Don't believe everything you see on Facebook Instagram or Twitter ( x).
Smart folks will validate what they're reading by doing a quick fact check on reputable news sources. Snopes is great for quick urban myth fact checks and related content.
It's a scary digital world out there. Stay safe...
Lou Schirripa I always appreciate your comments and wisdom on this and related topics.
