🎉🎉👏👏Let's congratulate our 4-H/FFA youth who completed in events at the State Fair of Virginia...
These youth were recognized last night via a zoom awards program by Katherine Carter and her VT Youth Extension Team!! There were so many wonderful kids recognized last night, We want to highlight our youth right here in Page County who took part!!
🍀Please see the attached flyer for all the accomplishments of our youth. Congratulations to everyone who completed during the State Fair!!
🌾🌾🌾🌾The top 10 youth in every age division of every species was recognized. Below is a brief breakdown:
🍀SKILLATHON:
Each contest is species specific (Swine, goat, sheep, beef) with breed ID, feed ID, equipment ID, Meat ID, livestock judging and a knowledge quiz.
🐖🐷Can you tell the difference between a Tamworth and a Duroc?? (By the way- They are breeds of swine!) OR know how to tell the difference between wheat and rye seed?? Know what a CIDR, transfer needle, prolapse retainer or a AI gun is??? How about knowing what a loin chop, rump roast, or a T-bone are? Then add on questions about agriculture, va agriculture and species specific knowledge??? How many stomachs does a large animal ruminate have, can you name them??? Now lets place a class of breeding ewes...do you know what main things yo look for??🐃🐐🐑
🌱🌱These are the types of things they have to know and do during a Skillathon Contest!!! Its a lot of knowledge to learn and retain!!!
🍀🍀🍀So awesome job to all the youth who even attempted the contest, maybe even for the 1st time!
🍀PREMIER EXHIBITOR:
🌱🌾🌱Placing comes from a collaboration of the following three things-- Skillathon placing, showmanship placing, and highest class placing. This is also species specific. To be eligible for premier exhibitor you must compete in all three things. The top 3 in each division and species will receive scholarship money from the State Fair of Virginia.
We hope you have taken the time to read this post, I know its a long one, but we want to honor our youth and help you understand what a great accomplishment and achievement this is. So please take the time to read the accomplishments below and if you see them out and about, tell them congratulations!! 🎉🎉👏👏

🌱🍀🌾Whats more exciting than seeing youth grow in agriculture??? We aren't sure!! We love to see our local youth grow and develop in agriculture, no matter the size accomplishment or task! Over the next several posts... we have just that... our youth is growing and doing great things, learning new things and becoming more confident doing it!! WE ARE SO PROUD 👏
