Because as teachers we put those we serve before ourselves. It seems selfish to think of our own needs. It takes PRACTICE and being consistent with putting yourself FIRST.🥇

Today, on National Special Education Day, I honor the journey of every advocate, educator, and parent supporting extraordinary individuals with different abilities.

I reflect on a journey that has defined not only my career but my entire life. For over 20 years, I have not only worked in the field of Special Education, but LIVE in the world of Special Education.

Our journey began the day my daughter entered this world, weighing just 1 pound 10 ounces. From that moment, my husband and I became her fiercest advocates, navigating challenges and celebrating milestones that have shaped us as a family. Today, as a remarkable young woman with different abilities, she continues to inspire us, now independently advocating for herself with strength and grace.

This path has never been easy. It is not for the faint of heart, but it is filled with unmatched rewards—the joy of triumphs, the lessons of resilience, and the beauty of unconditional love. I hope the families that I serve know how much I “get it.”

To every educator, advocate, and parent walking this road: you are seen, valued, and supported. And to my incredible daughter: you are my heart and my hero. ❤️
