High Prairie Fire Department - District #14

10/14/2026

The burn ban will no longer be in effect on October 16, 2026. Please watch the weather before you burn, however. A warm windy day with low humidity can still produce a wildfire since we have had little rain.

We’re saddened to share that on August 17, our neighbor Wishram Fire lost their Assistant Chief.

We’ll take it from here, Chief Augustus. Thank you for your service.

Last night, 17 of our 20 High Prairie Fire Department members participated in our bi-monthly drill focused on progressive hose lays and pump operations in the wildland.

A progressive hose lay allows firefighters to rapidly extend hose lines across grass, brush, and timber fuels while maintaining a dependable water supply. Combined with effective pump operations, these skills are critical to quickly containing wildfires and protecting lives, property, and natural resources.

While our members trained at home, Captain Philip Haner was dispatched to the Wagon Wheel Fire in Benton City with one of our Water Tenders as part of Washington State Mobilization, putting these same skills to work on an active incident. Participating in these State Mobilizations provides our department some much needed funds.

Wildfire season is here, and our volunteers continue to dedicate evenings, weekends, and family time to ensure they are ready when our community—or communities across Washington—need help.

Preparedness doesn’t begin when the pager tones. It begins on training nights like this one.

Thank you to our volunteers for your commitment to protecting High Prairie and serving wherever you’re called.

🚒 Interested in becoming part of the team? We’re always looking for volunteers. No experience is necessary—we provide the training.

Have you ever tried finding an address you’ve never been to before in High Prairie on a sunny day?

Sometimes the driveway you need is tucked deep in the woods, the grass is overgrown around the driveway, the house numbers are hard to see, or there are several roads and driveways close together.

Now imagine trying to find that same address during an emergency at night in smoke, snow, or rain.

That’s where blue address signs help.

A clearly posted blue number sign makes it easier for first responders to find you fast when every second matters.

High Prairie Fire provides blue number signs for $25 each.
