LYME HAMBURG FAIR 2026!
Kids Challenge Sunday at 10:30am

Come to the Lyme Fire booth and try your hand at being a firefighter with our forcible entry door challenge!

On Sunday at 10:30 we are sponsoring a Kids Duck Race at the Hamburg Fair ring! Kids can enter their ducks and race for a chance to win prizes.

Prizes will be awarded for 1st and 2nd place. This race is for kids only, so come out, have some fun, and cheer on the young racers!

LYME FIRE HOUSE & TRUCK NIGHT
Hamburg Station, 4-AUG-26 @ 18:30

Normal first Tuesday of the month work night doing truck checks, packs and other station maintenance.

We also worked on our main kitchen to prepare for new cabinets and installing them in time for our annual Steak Dinner fundraiser. The new cabinets are paid for by the fire department and not by the town since the kitchen is used twice a year by the membership for Steak Dinner and Breakfast with Santa.

INSPIRATION

In a week where we have seen the loss of some of the pillars of our local firefighting family, we need to also recognize what inspired many of us to do what we do and utter the phrase "we'll take it from here"

That simple phrase punctuates the fire service and that we are resilient, mourn for those that inspired us, mentored us, protected us from making mistakes on the fire scene, and enabled passing the baton so we could take it from here.

In the movie Backdraft, which chronicles this ascension in a dramatic way, making mistakes, and rising to the occasion to be a better firefighter or just a better person, the song "The Show Goes On" by Bruce Hornsby captures and echoes the sentiment that we must reflect, but we must pick ourselves up during loss, and answer the call, since the show goes on.

As you will see today, there are many tributes to the passing of actor Randolph Mantooth. Who was Randolph? He was known forever for one television series, a blip on the media timeline, as Johnny Gage in the tv show Emergency!

For many of us and even our kids who had to watch it with those of us who remember the novelty of color television, it inspired more than one generation. That show changed lives, gave some of us a compass on what to do with our careers, and by that simple inspiration, our nation gained an army of individuals who had a passion for serving as firefighters, paramedics, EMTs, EMRs, or in the medical field. That show made us better, and made us care about others.

Thank you Randolph Mantooth for inspiring generations, we'll take it from here...

With heavy hearts Lyme Fire shares the news of the passing of past Old Lyme Fire Chief, Arthur "Skip" Beebe.

Skip's wisdom, passion and kind spirit will be greatly missed by his fire department brothers and sisters in our tight-knit firefighter community, and by the Lyme community and the those at the Hamburg Fair.

Our thoughts go out to his family and the members of Old Lyme Fire Department.

LYME STORM DAMAGE RESPONSE

Last night Lyme Fire and neighboring towns responded to multiple incidents, including a house that got struck by lightning, to numerous trees down, with several active wires burning at the utility pole or on the ground. The hazards were significant.

Lyme responded to East Haddam for mutual aid, Chester Hose Company Inc. responded to Lyme for mutual aid, and Old Lyme Fire Department responded to Lyme for the house with the lightning strike. East Haddam Fire Department offered a crew to assist with burning utilities on Beaverbrook Road even while they managed their own multiple simultaneous incidents. Most town roads were impassable.

As of 10:47 this morning, the majority of the Lyme town roads are cleared, and Eversource and Lucas tree crews are working on Beaverbrook and Gungy Roads.

Lyme Responders:

Thanks to Captain Chase Reneson, Captain Archer Evans, Firefighters Nick Parrillo, Grace Smith, William Firgelewski, Chris Dow, Lyme Public Works foreman, Lars Anderson, town employee, Chris Hatt, and Fire Marshal, Dave Roberge. This small team got it done last night and into the morning.

Please be patient as utility work is being performed and services are getting restored. The whole state suffered significant damage last night.

TOWN OF LYME 4TH OF JULY PARADE!
Cove Road to the Lyme Grange & Fairgrounds

Celebrating our independence and nation's 250th anniversary, the Lyme community and some special guests showed up for the celebration!

Thanks to Old Lyme Fire Department and East Haddam Fire Department for making the day more festive with the addition of OLFD's Quint and EHFD's Ladder.

Also thanks to Lyme Ambulance Association (Lyme EMS) for the gift of donuts this morning, surprisingly our Troopers didn't take advantage of them...

A big shout out to Connecticut State Police-Troop F Westbrook for the traffic control and road closure management during the parade. All performed with professionalism in full uniform in ninety degree heat.

Lastly, thanks to Lyme Park and Rec for the great setup at the grange with food, music and tributes, and to the Lyme community for making our town such a special place!
