ISSA estimates that 80 to 85 percent of the soil in a commercial building is tracked in through the entrance, and that it costs roughly 600 dollars to remove a single pound of it once it is inside.
Fifteen feet of matting catches most of that at the door.

The EPA requires a disinfectant to stay visibly wet on a surface for its full contact time, which runs anywhere from 15 seconds to 10 minutes depending on the product.
A 2016 study in the American Journal of Infection Control found that in real world use that contact time was actually met in fewer than 25 percent of observed events. Spray and immediately wipe is the most common mistake in cleaning, and it leaves a surface that looks clean and is not disinfected.
