Empathy 4 Equity

Empathy 4 Equity We help organizations build a culture of empathy for transformation and social change.

Empathy 4 Equity exists to build a culture of empathy framework for organizational excellence. We work with nonprofits, foundations and corporations to provide strategies and opportunities in building a culture of empathy for transformation and social change. Transformative justice frameworks come from Community accountability that believe people to work together so that it’s not one person’s job to take care of others but everyone’s mutual responsibility.

TW: Mention of discriminatory work policies and practices

Structures and systems are a natural part of the workplace but, unfortunately, many might not realize they are discriminatory. What does this look like?

🔺Dress codes and grooming standards that make it hard to wear cultural or religious items, afros, beards, dreadlocks, and/or braids, or that may force someone to contradict their gender identity and expression.
🔺 Forcing staff to participate in certain activities, holidays, or other observances.
🔺 Having a pay scale that disproportionately disadvantages marginalized groups.

Can this be changed? Yes! With awareness, accountability, and dedication, you can start identifying and deconstructing any discriminatory systems you may have in place.

TW: Microaggression examples.

A microaggression is an everyday, subtle interaction or behavior that communicates some sort of bias toward historically marginalized groups. Many of us don’t even recognize when we are micro-aggressing someone.

Some examples…

🔺Telling your Latinx coworker they speak English well.
🔺Following a Black customer around a store.
🔺Telling your neighbor that they don’t “look gay.”

Even if it’s unintentional, these things add up and can cause a lot of hurt. E4E can help you start to be more aware of your biases and impact on those around you! Send us a message to get started ➡️ empathy4equity.com/contact-us

We come from so many different backgrounds, intersections, experiences, and identities. It may seem complex, but we CAN learn to recognize, respect, and honor those who are different than us.

The act of changing oneself should be a genuine act of true internal transformation to positively impact those around you. It shouldn’t be a tactic used when something is to be gained for oneself. You do the research, you do the work, you listen, and you learn about other perspectives and experiences to make yourself a better ally, a better friend, and a better human. 🤝💚

E4E can give you a jumpstart to self-transformation! Send us a message at empathy4equity.com/contact-us

Intersectionality is a topic that’s intrinsically personal. How do YOU identify? Within the spaces of race, nationality, ability, sexual orientation, gender identity, and more, we can find ourselves at the intersection of identity. Each can be vital to us, and frame our reality in SO many ways.

Traditional DEI efforts focus on the tip of the iceberg, which are the things that make up a person's identity. Empathy 4 Equity focuses on what lies below, which are most of the things that shape us. That’s why empathy is at the heart of our work. We are as unique as our own fingerprints, and empathy is the only way that we can REALLY cultivate authentic and meaningful relationships, inspire deep conversation, guide social change, and empower collaboration.
