🦚 The State Is Not Your Guardian

Let the record show what the state already knows but will not say aloud: an elderly man in Reno had to post a video on social media to prove he is competent enough to keep his own home. That is not protection. That is a warning.

The law is clear. NRS 427A.250 tells the state to help seniors stay home, not warehouse them. Olmstead tells the state that institutionalization is discrimination when community-based care works. Nevada's own Alzheimer's Task Force admitted there is "no legal authority" for long-term care providers to hold a resident against their will. So why does a competent man have to beg for a hearing on camera?

Because the machinery does not need him to be incompetent. It only needs him to be alone, uninformed, and slow to file. The petition gets filed. The hearing gets scheduled. The man who does not fight becomes a ward and the home gets sold.

Here is the closing argument: the state is not your guardian. The state is a process. And a process will take everything you own if you do not show up and object.

This man showed up. He posted a video. He made the record. Now the question is whether the courthouse will hear him before the gavel falls and whether the rest of us are watching closely enough to make sure it does.

🇺🇲 The record is waiting. The state is watching. And every senior in America should be taking notes.
