Sometimes real talk between sisters is that extra something we need to keep going and to feel seen. Sawubona! So honored to have shared the value of knowing your worth and what you are carrying with these dynamic young women. It’s the difference between China and Chinet (IYKYK). Do you know what miracle you’re carrying?

“Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.” Romans‬ ‭12‬:‭2‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Current situation: In Oklahoma on an annual college tour with students from TX and AL. We had to stop and pose with Optimus Prime just outside the campus of OSU! I was inspired to reflect on Romans 12:2 as God is shifting mindsets! 🙏🏾

Loving what I am seeing in the students and what God is doing in me as he shifts our thinking to see greater, think greater and expect greater despite limiting personal, cultural and sociopolitical narratives!

I was blessed to come from a “college going” family where it was never a question IF I was going to college, but where. That’s not everyone’s norm. I am so thankful to be a part of a ministry that was started over 20 years ago to give students the tools they need to pursue higher education, military service, trade opportunities and/or entrepreneurship! I will not let the door of opportunity close behind me. I am blessed to be a blessing to others.

When we allow God to change our mindsets, we change the trajectory of our lives and walk into our destiny with greater discernment and determination.

LIFE UPDATE ALERT! (Yes, it is lengthy.) Usually, I would be going live for the Monday Morning Mindful Moment, but so much has happened that I felt led to briefly share with my followers/supporters.

I made 2 full weeks of a complete water fast and started reintroducing whole foods. About a week into my journey, I shared that I broke out with a condition referred to as keto rash. I am taking antibiotics and applying cream my dermatologist recommended to help fade the hyperpigmentation. I am embarrassed and trying my best to find the beauty in this situation.

I started feeling ill Friday before last and ended up going to the ER. A very long story short, I was admitted due to a bowel obstruction and an abdominal hernia that needed repair. The doctor told me had they not caught what was going on, my morbidity rate would have greatly increased. I spent Mother’s Day in the hospital, unable to see my kids because they are too young to visit the floor I was on. I had the surgery last Monday and was released after 5 days of hospitalization. The pain, swelling, and discomfort of it all is hard to bear and I am trying my best to view the pain as productive.

I won’t pretend that I understand all of this. I won’t pretend that this is an easy process. I won’t pretend that I understand why this is happening. But, I will say that through many tears, feeling alone despite having friends and family support, and more questions than answers, I choose to believe that God has a plan and purpose. I choose to believe that despite how I feel and what it looks like, God is trustworthy.

Jesus Calling reminded me this morning that, “When things don’t go as you would like, accept the situation immediately. If you indulge in feelings of regret, they can easily spill over the line into resentment. Remember that I am sovereign over your circumstances and humble yourself under My mighty hand. Rejoice in what I am doing in your life, even though it is beyond your understanding.”

So, in a space called “beyond my understanding”, I am taking a sabbatical to heal, regroup, and hear from the Lord. If the Lord says the same, I will return in the fall with new content and accept bookings for speaking engagements.

Please remember me as you pray. This too MUST pass in the mighty name of Jesus! 🙌🏾

Today’s Mindful Moment will not be televised. LOL This is day 16 of my fast. My face and neck are inflamed. Most of the detox has come out through my skin. To ease the severity and the extreme faintness, I have added fresh pressed juice (YUMMY!) and will slowly add raw veggies over the next few days. The detox symptoms are unsightly and painful, but I am reminded in 1 Corinthians 6:19-20:

Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your bodies.

I’ve never done this level of fasting before. I can honestly say I have committed to making it a lifestyle. During this process, you learn a lot about what is in you mentally, emotionally, physically and spiritually. Holy Spirit has to feel suffocated with all the gunk and toxicity that’s accumulated over the years.

What’s in your system? What do you need to purge from your life today? Is it over processed food? Toxic relationships? Hindering mindsets? Unforgiveness? Whatever it is, let the Lord help you to be a healthy host to Holy Spirit.

As you go throughout this day, breathe deeply, focus intently, surrender your all to the Lord and tell Holy Spirit:

✅ I will make room for you.
✅ I will deny my flesh and dwell in the shelter of the Most High.
✅ I will lay my pride aside and every besetting sin that keeps me bound.
✅ I will take joy in you completing a good work in me, even through the pain.

Take care of your temples, fam!

Day 12 of fast: I am going to be completely transparent. There are no filters for this. 🤷🏾‍♀️ To say this has been one of the most challenging things I have faced is an understatement. It’s been lonely and I have wondered if it is even worth continuing.

✅ Crazy dreams
✅ Insomnia
✅ Intense mood swings
✅ Severe face breakouts/abrasions
✅ Chronic nausea and fatigue
✅ Dry mouth despite drinking 1 gallon of 💦 daily
✅ Mental opposition that has made me question my calling and the anointing
✅ Professional delays wrapped in empty promises from men

I have wanted to quit, but I have stayed the course, because my “why” is bigger and the WHO that I believe in is even bigger than that. I can’t say that I have received profound revelation upon revelation, but I have a deeper understanding of 2 Corinthians 12:9 and 10:

9 And He said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore most gladly I will rather boast in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me. 10 Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in needs, in persecutions, in distresses, for Christ’s sake. For when I am weak, then I am strong.

Today’s Tip: Quit striving when things push you past your capacity to cope and simply quit on quitting by lying at the feet of Jesus.

He can handle our ugly, our questions, our doubts, our exhaustion, our fears and all that we may try to keep others from seeing. Sometimes the best thing we can do is literally lie quietly in the omnipresence of God and let him carry us, one breath at a time. There aren’t enough mantras and breathing exercises that can carry you when you are weak and at your end. To be held by the savior in that secret place equips you with what you need to get through the next moment.

Brokenness is the opportune state to be reminded how much we need Jesus and to witness the power of his redemptive love for us. Don’t resist, just lie in his lap, and let him carry you through the valley of weakness. I believe it is in these moments that we are best able to witness to others because we have experienced humility that connects us with our own humanity. This helps us compassionately connect with others which can only come through being beautifully broken, scars and all.

Don’t quit. Just lie at his feet. Hear his heart and get to work as he works on you. It is there that you find your power.

Day 4 of complete water fast: Yesterday was rough until noon. I was woozy, fatigued, and weak. I gave myself permission to stay in bed and rest. Then, I gently moved throughout the day. By the time I began teaching my afternoon classes, I felt good and what I didn’t accomplish in the AM, I accomplished in the PM. I went to bed feeling so much stronger! 🙏🏾🙌🏾🎉

Lesson:
Your body is smart. Listen to what it is telling you it needs. Sometimes that means being more flexible with your schedule or freeing up your headspace for prayer, meditation, and mindfulness practices. This journey towards holistic health and wellness is exciting, scary, and rewarding. Unlearning the habits and mindsets that got me here takes self-compassion, consistency, and patience. I am worth it.

What kinds of activities do you engage in to refuel your body/mind/spirit? What habits are you unlearning so that you can operate from your overflow?

Remember, there are no medals or gold rings for being overworked, stressed out, over scheduled and stretched beyond your capacity to be well.

MAKE the time to put yourself first. Compassion-centered self care empowers us to serve others with a full tank.

Week 3 of lifestyle overhaul, day 2 of complete water fast.

Reset, refocus, and do the work. Started my morning with prayer, journaling, meditation and embodied movement. Every day God gives you life is an opportunity to learn how to live without limits. Don’t be afraid to do what it takes to heal and learn how to move gently through life with self-compassion. Blame, pain, and shame are not motivators.
