We’re excited to announce the Southeastern Indiana Recycling District’s 2026–2027 School Recycling Challenge!

This year’s challenge gives students the opportunity to work together as a recycling club while building teamwork, leadership, and responsibility—and schools and students have the chance to earn some great awards along the way. If you’re a teacher or school employee, you can find the information below. If you’re not, we could use your help spreading the word! If you know a teacher, school employee, or someone connected with a school in our seven-county district, feel free to share this post with them.

And if you have a student who might enjoy being part of a recycling club, encourage them to mention the challenge to one of their teachers and see if their school might be interested in participating.

Our district serves schools in Franklin, Jefferson, Jennings, Ohio, Ripley, Scott, and Switzerland Counties, and we’d love to see schools from across the district get involved.

The deadline to enter is September 30, 2026.

🐝 What’s the buzz about bees? Come find out!

We’re hosting our All About Bees Workshop on Tuesday, August 18 from 6:00–7:00 PM at the Southeastern Indiana Recycling District’s main office in Madison! Whether you’re already interested in bees or just curious about what all the buzz is about, this workshop has plenty to see and learn. Our presenter, local beekeeper Rachel Ellenson, will give you an up-close look at the world of honeybees, including:
🐝 A live observation hive with a front-row view of the bees
🍯 What it’s really like to be a beekeeper
🌼 Why bees and other pollinators are so important
🌱 The importance of pollinator plants
🐝 Challenges facing bee populations and simple ways we can help
The workshop is FREE for District residents, but space is limited to 30 participants. 📅 Registration closes THIS FRIDAY, August 14!
