Believe it or not, the most effective time to get a business valuation is long before you're ready to sell!

Most business owners don't consider leveraging a business valuation until they have an interested buyer, a successor ready to step in, or a fixed timeline for retirement. But understanding what your business is worth today gives you a clearer starting point for the decisions ahead and more opportunity to improve the final sale price.

Three-five years out from a sale, owners have time to make adjustments that have real impact on the value of their business, but if you wait until you’re ready to sell, there’s not enough time to make substantial changes like:

Sometimes a new source of funding isn't worth the price of admission.

Especially in a challenging market, it's understandably difficult for nonprofits to turn down new sources of revenue. However, it's important for organizations to fully understand how each grant and (perhaps more importantly) it's requirements will impact your operations, cash flow, and mission before accepting an award.

Senior Manager of Nonprofit Advisory Services, Melodi Bunting, CPA, CMA, CGMA recommends evaluating each new grant opportunity by asking the following questions:

➡️What will it take to administer the grant?
➡️Can our cash flow support the structure and timing of the funding?

Community is a big part of what makes Wegner feel like Wegner. 💙

The last few weeks, we’ve had plenty of opportunities to spend time together and show up for the communities around us. For example, last week our various office teams gathered to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month with great food and a few rounds of Lotería, and the week prior, our Baraboo office put their volunteer time to work supporting Beyond Blessed Food Pantry!

It’s also been a busy season of meeting future accountants on campus, connecting with people throughout our communities, and squeezing in a few more golf outings before Wisconsin reminds us that winter is coming.

Whether we’re learning together, lending a hand, or simply making time to connect, we’re grateful for the people and our communities that make these moments possible.
