Remodeling is a JOURNEY! There are many exciting moments, tearing out walls, moving windows, finding out details of the history of the house you bought…. Most of them good stuff! Then there are the details most people don’t think of, constant cleaning to stay ahead of the dust, insulation, drywall mess… all while living in the same place you are remodeling. I don’t recommend doing that if it can be avoided. We chose to do all the work ourselves and as an interior designer , I was right in there helping my husband do the work!
One year ago, March 29th, we were deep into the demo and I have taken a thousand pictures of the progress. Hopefully to share with you how a humble ranch was transformed into a beautiful lake home for our family and friends to enjoy for years to come.
The process seemed easy, tear out walls, run new electrical, heat runs, move air conditioner, replace all windows, add a front door and a porch, add a walk through master closet and master bathroom. Oh, remove and redesign kitchen layout with new cabinetry and large island. Well first things first, we had to get it down on paper with permit ready drawings and go to town board meetings, zoning and the get approved by the county - we REALLY wanted a front door with accessibility for this is our aging in place strategy.
