Help us find a better way!
This slogan from the 1990’s Worthy Wage Campaign is as true today as it was then. While the campaign as we knew it then has ended, the movement to secure worthy wages for our workforce goes on. And today, as then, we draw attention to the first day in May: Worthy Wage Day.
This day is our reminder that the struggle for worthy wages rests on all of us finding a better way to finance early care and education as a vital service to Wisconsin families. Take time today to reflect on what you are doing to contribute to the movement. Who are you educating about this problem? How are you letting others know about the difference this work can make in the life of a child? Perhaps most importantly, if you are a child care provider, how are you affirming your own self-worth?
Despite earning a mere average of $10 per hour, people do this work because they have a deep love and respect for young children, and like other professionals, they’ve honed the skills needed to do their work well. On this day, together with you, WECA recommits to finding a better way.
Our movement goes beyond Wisconsin. On this Worthy Way day we encourage you to join a national, even global, conversation .
