Working remotely while camping is real work

On any usual workweek, many of us pencil pushers trudge our weary bodies back and forth to the office each day as we dream of Friday afternoon. So, when stay-at-home orders were issued across the country during the Covid19 pandemic, office workers were told to work from home. Oh, some of us were absolutely thrilled with the prospect of working in our pajamas and lounging on the couch with the laptop.

I was one of the most enthusiastic about working at home. "Now, I can take my laptop and work anywhere," I naively thought. "How wonderfully perfect it's going to be to work while camping," I said to myself. I made reservations, packed the pop-up and headed to the woods.

Camping and office work have a complicated relationship, I've learned. Yes, it is possible, and I did it, but not without some serious barriers. It was wonderful to set up my "office" in the great outdoors; the breezy, early morning was perfect for coffee at the picnic table as I turned on my laptop to read my emails. That's where the real struggle began, and I learned a few things:

1. Check to see if your campground has internet or wi-fi access if you have to attend virtual meetings or respond to email
2. Bring a comfortable chair; sitting on a picnic bench for 8 hours was not really nice
3. Tell your boss where you are at before your partner posts it on social media
4. While sitting in a sunny spot seems nice in the morning, it's not so nice in the heat of the afternoon
5. Bugs and things fly, crawl and bite
6. Hiking several hours during "lunch break" and then sitting on picnic bench is not wonderful

Do you work remotely from an unusual spot? Have you learned some tips for others? Message us or email [email protected].

10 Easy Steps for Fun, Cheap Stress Relief for All Ages

As the global pandemic threatens to shut down the economy again, as protests have taken an unlawful and ugly turn, and as tens of millions of people face job insecurity, stress and anxiety have mounted. People are at wit's end over how to continue to keep moving forward in a positive manner.
One easy and fun activity anyone can do is to paint pet rocks. Yes, painting rocks has become a favorite way to relieve stress in many households, including for people who have not one ounce of artistic talent (or so they think). Painting pet rocks is cheap and easy to get started.
"I use the colors, the images, the brush strokes, and the music to cleanse my mind of all of the stress in my life and around me," said one professional artist who recently started painting rocks. "Getting lost in the moment of mixing, blending, dabbing and brushing is an easy therapeutic activity that anyone and everyone can do."
Here's how to get started:
1. Purchase acrylic paints (very easy to find and cheap to buy)
2. Purchase a few paint brushes (cheap and different sizes)
3. Adding a polycrylic coating before painting and after painting seals the rocks and keeps the colors bright (This is not necessary, when first getting started).
4. Find rocks (this is also a fun exercise and activity for anyone to enjoy.) Rocks are usually laying around and are free.
5. Find a place to paint (preferably in a shady and nice spot outside or in a well-lit and comfy spot inside)
6. Add some mood music
7. Add some snacks/beverages
8. Invite friends; or paint alone
9. Find your image or use your imagination; use a paper plate to mix colors before applying to the rock
10. Give your rocks names, give them away or keep them

Do you have a way to combat stress that you would like to share? Message MoxieFierce or email us at [email protected].

We are looking to interview mature female entrepreneurs who have started a second career after 40.
