It's most affordable to purchase long-term care insurance when you're in your 40s and 50s, but some people get diagnosed with an unexpected illness or chronic disease before they have a chance to purchase the insurance.

Consider a Hybrid Life/Long-Term Care Policy. A hybrid life insurance policy with long-term care combines a permanent life insurance plan with a long-term care rider or linked benefit. If you need care, you can use the funds tax-free while alive; if you never need care, a death benefit is paid to your heirs.
