Reduced risk of heart disease: Walking 20 minutes a day can reduce the risk of heart disease by up to 30%. Brisk walking can provide similar benefits to running for reducing cholesterol, blood pressure, and diabetes.
Improved immune function: Walking can improve immune function in seniors.
Weight management: Exercise can help with weight management.
Improved sleep: Exercise can improve sleep.
The CDC recommends that adults 65 and older get at least 150 minutes of moderate-intensity aerobic physical activity each week. This could be 30 minutes a day, 5 days a week.
