Important story from Wisconsin Public Radio on federal Covid funding that has been put into school nursing in Wisconsin and on the continuing need for more school nurses in the state. Wisconsin Association of School Nurses President Kelly Barlow (Shorewood School District) is quoted.

As Wisconsin faces a shortage of nurses, an $8.3 million state grant aims to help school districts hire and retain health workers.

A well deserved national award for a true advocate for health care in the school setting. Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction (DPI) School Nurse Consultant Louise Wilson has done an incredible job during the pandemic, working collaboratively with the Department of Health Services (DHS), local health boards, and, of course, school nurses throughout Wisconsin. Louise has been a strong leader for the Wisconsin Association of School Nurses (WASN) and the National Association of School Nurses (NASN) for many years. Congratulations, Louise!

Really looking forward to this forum hosted by PROFS, representing the UW-Madison faculty, and ASPRO, the Academic Staff Public Representation Organization. We have two relatively new faces in the State Senate, Senator Kelda Roys and Senator Eric Wimberger, both attorneys, one a Democrat and one a Republican; an influential UW regent, Amy Blumenfeld-Bogost; and Professor Ananth Seshadri, Chair of the UW-Madison Economics Department, who has done research on what the university needs from the state to remain successful. Jessie Opoien, Cap Times Capitol Bureau Chief, will serve as moderator!

The safety of our agricultural workers is a paramount concern for our state. That is why it is so important that Governor Tony Evers has declared this week Grain Bin Safety Week, honoring a collaborative effort led by the Wisconsin Insurance Alliance and joined by other industry leaders and agricultural professionals groups.

Today the 2% pay increase for UW System faculty and staff (and other state employees) takes effect. Below is the testimony PROFS presented to the Joint Committee on Employment Relations (JCOER) prior to JCOER approving the plan (another 2% in a year) on December 21.

PROFS (UW-Madison faculty) statement on state budget passed by the Wisconsin Legislature. Disappointed there wasn't more state support for UW System (we will keep advocating for more). Pleased that in-state tuition authority goes back to the Board of Regents, where it belongs. We've made the case that if there is going to be a tuition increase, it needs to be coupled with more financial aid and diversity promotion. Also pleased there is funding for a 2% per year pay plan and support for building repairs and maintenance, plus a new Letters & Science building.
