Just offering a suggestion to prevent food waste while so many people are without power:

If you can, cook any meats and perishables. Share with friends and neighbors, or store in a cooler with ice. During Ike, we lost power for 15 days, but we lost very minimal food, as we tried to be proactive. We also had a neighbor who smoked bbq for the whole block. Ice and gas (for generators) were scarce, so when people traveled for work outside of the impacted area, they would bring some back with them for themselves and their neighbors.
