The Perfect Vacation Dinner Is…
Fine dining, local food, buffet with options, casual meal by the water, or room service in pajamas.

If you are thinking of taking your first cruise but are unsure of what to choose - let's look at my top two recommendations when sailing Royal Caribbean.

Wonder of the Seas - 4 night Bahamas itinerary. This Oasis class ship is new with tons of entertainment, dining, and more. The 4 day itinerary gives you a Perfect Day at CocoCay, a day in Nassau, and a day at sea to explore all the ship has to offer. And since she sails out of Miami - direct fligths are easy from most markets.

Utopia of the Seas - 3 night Bahamas itinerary. Similiar great Oasis class ship amenities, you still get a Perfect Day in CocoCay and a stop in Nassau. But since Utopia's home port is Port Canaveral, this itinerary makes a great short cruise to add to your theme park vacation.

Vacation is an investment on time, energy, and money. And as much as no one wants to imagine things going wrong on vacation, it happens all the time. That is why I always recommend adding travel insurance to protect your investment.
Just some of the reasons:
1. Flight delays and cancellations
2. Illness or injury (either preventing travel or worse - while on vacation)
3. Lost baggage
* Always be sure to check the details on any insurance policy purchased for details, coverage, and exceptions.

Have you ever been searching flights for that getaway you are always thinking about - when you see an amazing deal? I hate to say this - don't run for your wallet and book the air before you check the other components of the trip. That fantastic airfare price might also coincide with booked hotels, in-destination holidays, or no staterooms on the ship.
And since most airfare is non-refundable, it is better to know the whole picture before you book anything.

One of the biggest mistakes I see people make when planning a Hawaiian vacation is trying to fit in too many islands without extending the length of the trip. Ideally you want a minimum of 3 to 4 days on any islands you plan on visiting. Personally, I think you could spend an entire vacation on any one of the islands.
When you jump from island to island too frequently you are seeing more of the islands airport than the island itself.

I am going to clear up some misconceptions I often hear about Aulani, a Disney Resort and Spa in Ko Olina, Hawaii.
First, foremost, and unequivocally, there is no theme park here. They have a beach, pools, a snorkeling reef, heck, even characters (and character dining) but if you are looking for a theme park - no luck here.
Second, it's not just Disney in Hawaii - while it captures the details and storytelling Disney is known for - it is a uniquely Hawaiian story. Aulani weaves together the magic of Disney and the enchantment of Hawaii.
My recommendation - make Aulani part of a longer stay on Oahu. Relax and rejuvenate at Aulani, spend a few days exploring from Waikiki, and then head to the North Shore for a totally different experience altogether.

We all love a good deal—and in this economy, every dollar matters.

But the lowest price is not always the best value. Extra fees, endless add-ons, inconvenient locations, safety concerns, and added stress can quickly turn a bargain into an expensive mistake.

Because sometimes, choosing the wrong “cheap” vacation is worse than taking no vacation at all.

Check out this week’s newsletter for tips on choosing the right resort—not just the lowest-priced one.
