🏆 Student-Athlete Spotlight of the Week: Julia Downing

Julia Downing of Haddam-Killingworth High School continues to excel through dedication, leadership, and impressive athletic achievement.

A standout in cross country and track & field, Julia was the Class SS Cross Country Championship runner-up and earned GametimeCT First-Team All-State honors. She also qualified for the New England Cross Country Championship after placing 23rd at the State Open Championship.

Julia is a 3-time All-Shoreline Conference honoree and recently set the Haddam-Killingworth High School outdoor track 5K school record with an outstanding time of 18:32.23.

Beyond athletics, Julia ranks 4th in the Class of 2026 while serving as Vice President of Student Council and Treasurer of multiple honor societies and clubs. She also earned the Spanish Seal of Biliteracy and has balanced academics and athletics while working at a local bagel shop over the past three years.

This fall, Julia will continue her journey at Wesleyan University. 👏💚

Adyson Wiseman of Waterford High School continues to stand out through leadership, academic excellence, athletic achievement, and community involvement.

A 2-sport student-athlete competing in girls soccer and girls lacrosse, Adyson earned All-State honors in soccer and has committed to continue her athletic and academic journey at Springfield College. ⚽🥍

Beyond athletics, she challenges herself academically with 5 AP courses while also being a member of four honor societies: National, Spanish, Art, and Science.

Adyson also plays a major leadership role within her school community as Senior Executive Director—helping organize major events, coordinate fundraising efforts, and lead communication updates for parents and classmates.

🏆 Student-Athlete Spotlight of the Week: James Kersten

James Kersten of Shepaug Valley High School has built an incredible athletic legacy through leadership, consistency, and standout performance across multiple sports.

A 3-sport varsity athlete competing in soccer, basketball, and baseball, James will graduate with an impressive 11 varsity letters across 12 seasons. He also made history as Shepaug’s all-time leading scorer with 2,070 career points becoming just the 29th player in CIAC history to reach the 2,000-point milestone.

James earned multiple First Team Berkshire League honors in both soccer and basketball, along with two First Team All-State selections. In the 2026 Berkshire League Championship, he delivered a dominant second-half performance with 21 points to help lead Shepaug to the title.

His success continued on the state level as he competed in four CIAC State Championship games, including a Class S soccer championship and an undefeated 27-0 Division V basketball championship season. 👏

An incredible competitor, leader, and student-athlete—congratulations to James Kersten on this well-deserved spotlight! 💚
