Another fire season, and there's a camera network on watch — 1,200+ cameras across California, run by UC San Diego's ALERTCalifornia program, scanning the highest-risk areas 24 hours a day. They can spot smoke before the first 911 call comes in.

We have hosted numerous cameras across our service area as part of this program since 2021. The team at ALERTCalifornia is sharp, and they keep pushing the technology forward.

We run a public camera overlooking the Fort Bragg Airport — a free service we provide to the community so pilots can check conditions before they fly. It’s up around the clock, year-round.

Tomorrow, if the fog stays down, it may also offer a nice view of the fireworks over town.

A few 4ths ago, we were paddleboarding on the Gualala River just West of Mill Bend when this bald eagle landed a few feet away. Enormous creature — and completely unbothered by us. We drifted there a while, carefully worked a camera out of the dry bag just in time for this shot right as he took off.

He's more patriotic than our actual mascot — the swallows nesting under the bridge — so we'll let him have the day.

We're proud to support our local volunteer fire department, and we've donated prizes to this year's raffle.

This Sunday is the Comptche Volunteer Fire Department's 59th annual Father's Day Chicken BBQ — noon to 4pm at Firehouse Park on Flynn Creek Road, half a mile south of the Comptche Store.

The Mendocino coast is an enormously difficult place to serve, with storms, salt air, falling trees, road closures, wind, rain that goes on for days, and extended power outages.
At Further Reach, we stop at nothing to keep you connected during the worst of it. We built an extensive array of backup batteries, chargers, remote management tools, and fixed and portable generators to keep the network operational indefinitely without grid power.
We're thrilled to announce the beta launch of SPIN: the Subscriber-Powered Infrastructure Network — another layer in our relentless pursuit of redundancy.
SPIN is a pedal-powered generator that connects directly to your home networking equipment, allowing subscribers to keep their internet running under their own power during an outage.
