Future lineworkers and electricians got a firsthand look at the industry during the High School Lineworker and Electrician Camp, held May 31-June 5.

Hosted in partnership with the North Dakota Association of Rural Electric Cooperatives (NDAREC), the North Dakota Energy Education Program and electric cooperatives across the state, the weeklong camp provided students with hands-on training in AC/DC theory, circuit design, pole climbing, powerline construction, equipment operation, safety practices and troubleshooting.

The camp gave high school students an opportunity to explore rewarding careers in the electrical trades while learning directly from industry professionals.

β€œThis hands-on camp introduced students to meaningful, in-demand careers while helping build the next generation workforce,” said NDAREC General Manager Josh Kramer.

Thank you to the electric cooperatives, instructors, partners and students who made this year's camp a success.

North Dakotans will head to the polls June 9 for the state’s primary election. Often overlooked, it’s important to the election cycle.

In 2024, about 63% of eligible voters participated in the general election. In contrast, only 19% turned out for the 2022 primary. It matters because primary voters determine which candidates appear on the November ballot. When the turnout is limited, fewer voters carry a lot of influence. Yet, primary elections are one of the most direct ways to shape North Dakota’s future policies.

For electric cooperative members, these elections carry added weight. Elected leaders shape policies affecting energy reliability, infrastructure investment and the vitality of rural communities.

Shoutout to our talented Senior Graphic Artist, Liza Kessel, for sharing her creative gifts at last week’s North Dakota Asian-American Arts and Cultural Initiative Cultural Expo!

Liza’s work was featured alongside other incredible artists in the silent auction. We see her design work every day at NDAREC – but it’s pretty special to see her work celebrated in the broader arts community, too.

North Plains Connector welcomes Minnkota Power Cooperative (Minnkota) as the eighth member of its utility consortium. Minnkota has signed a non-binding memorandum of understanding (MOU) with North Plains Connector LLC, a wholly owned entity of Grid United, to secure 150 megawatts of capacity on the 3,000-megawatt, high-voltage direct current (HVDC) transmission line once it begins operations, subject to successful negotiation of definitive agreements.

Minnkota becomes the eighth utility in the North Plains Connector Utility Consortium, a group of utility participants who intend to invest in the HVDC transmission line.
