“Regulations can also stifle cannabis tourism growth. Consumption lounges will play a key role in any healthy cannabis tourism market, and only a few municipalities in California have allowed for them to open up. From an agritourism perspective, safety, security, and testing requirements in place to protect cannabis plants can make it difficult for canopy and farm tours to take place,” says Belsky.

Inevitably, Covid-19 has slowed down everything from licensing to consumption rules as the regulatory framework can be tricky to navigate. Even though Colorado and Nevada have strong tourism industries, Belsky believes California will lead the way on the tourism aspect of cannabis. He says “there are three capitals of cannabis across the world–you have the research, development and medical ma*****na capital in Israel, the financial capital in Toronto, Canada, and then the cultural capital of cannabis is California.”

He believes that the fact that w**d is synonymous with the “California lifestyle” means “we’ll begin to see cannabis tied into the alternative therapies, spiritual exercises, and wellness experiences that draw thousands of tourists to California every year as well.”

Big thank you to Jennifer Sizeland and Fodor's Travel for including David Belsky's perspective in their recent article on California’s cannabis tourism.

Recently, Virginia expedited cannabis legalization in an effort to decrease criminalization even further.

LGBTQ+ communities have been paving the way for cannabis accessibility since the ‘70s. They’ve been both consuming and advocating for cannabis for years.

LGBTQ+ AIDS activists and advocates were key to the initial push for cannabis legalization Proposition 215.

At FlowerHire, we feel indebted and want to highlight, and celebrate, at least a few individuals who have advocated for the cannabis industry

And we want to remind the cannabis community that supporting full self-expression is not only the right thing but the smart thing to do.

When employees can show up 100% as themselves, they are:
💪More confident
🎨More creative
💡More innovative
And bring more value to every endeavor they pursue.

Maha Haq, President of The Highspitality Group, Founder and President of Cannaclub, and CEO of CREA.

Maha started her work in cannabis in 2012, focusing on management and operations for local Los Angeles medical dispensaries. Since then, she has developed legal cannabis businesses in several states and countries through a Denver based consulting firm and conducted cannabis research and specialized in business development and marketing at the first ISO-accredited analytical cannabis testing lab.

Maha has dedicated nearly a decade in the cannabis space and plans to continue working and researching the plant and other drugs.

"As a first-generation American, discussing cannabis is difficult to navigate among the two communities I am part of—both views are so contrasting yet similar. But with new research and education, acceptance will inevitably follow."
