Here’s what I learned hosting the AWS re:Invent Lightning Talks last week👇 Save this for later!

Any field you’re in, whether it’s engineering, tech, or something else, getting comfortable sharing your work publicly is one of the fastest ways to grow your career, your confidence, and your opportunities.

You don’t need the perfect slidedeck or a massive stage. Start small. Say yes. Share the thing you know. Someone out there needs it.

Save this, so you remember this fun fact later! What are two main types of touchscreens? 👇

✨ Capacitive: reacts to your body’s electrical charge (used in phones + tablets)

So when your fingers are cold and your phone doesn’t respond, it’s not broken. Cold fingers have less blood flow + moisture, which = less conductivity.

✨ Resistive: reacts to pressure (used in kiosks + outdoor equipment)

Instead of sensing electricity, resistive screens work when you physically press down. The screen’s top and bottom layers touch to complete a circuit. That’s why they still work even when you wear gloves or use a stylus.

Save this for future reference! Why do we use VPCs? 👇

Imagine you’re unpacking after moving into a new house.

You open another box (in a pile that doesn’t seem to shrink), and you find your grandmother’s favorite pearl necklace.

Then, boom!

⏰ It’s 10 years ago. You’re at your family’s holiday dinner, fondly listening to your grandma, who is wearing that pearl necklace, tell a story.

You have to keep your grandmother’s necklace safe!

So, in your new house, you only allow people you trust to enter. 🏡

Similarly, you only want people you trust to be able to access your digital data.

đź’ˇ Enter: Amazon VPC (Virtual Private Cloud).

VPCs let you create a private section of the cloud where you can host virtual machines, databases, and storage in a secure and isolated environment.

Only people you allow have access.

How?

🚦 You control the traffic.

Happy Friday 🫶 A bunch of my teammates from work came to NYC this week, and it was fun seeing them (some for the first time) in-person! People traveled in from all over the country - Seattle, DC and Kentucky.

I feel like meeting someone at least once in-person really helps boost connections and build relationships.

Let me know in the comments if you work with your team in-person, virtually or a mix!
