This handmade rustic cabinet is my latest project to come out of the shop. It is made out of local Michigan white pine with a live edge top and sides. The bear images on the doors are free hand routed and really help make this cabinet a one of a kind. It measures 28"X16"X36". The cabinet is available to purchase for $750 so if anyone is interested, please feel free to contact me.

It has been a LONG, cold and snowy winter so not much action on the sawmill. This has given me some time for a few projects inside the shop utilizing wood that came off the mill. My latest is project is a custom high-top table. The base is made out of white cedar logs and the top is a 2+" thick live edge white pine slab. The words and wildlife scenes on the top are hand routered and covered in an epoxy pour.

My son, Ben, and daughter-in-law, Kayleigh, have blessed Connie and I with grandson #2! Kayleigh asked if I would make a highchair for the newest Miller. Almost the entire project was constructed from wood (mostly cherry) I sawed on the Wood Mizer sawmill. It was more challenging than I first thought as there are A LOT of tapers and compound angles. During this project, I was introduced to "Intarsia" a woodworking technique that I had never heard of previously. It is basically making a jigsaw puzzle out of different wood species and that is how the backrest of the chair is constructed. There is no stain, paint or dyes used, just the natural wood colors. Intarsia is pretty tedious but I'm thinking I will be doing more of it in the future.

Nana Connie needed a rocking chair for Christmas! This led to starting a new project that began on the sawmill and came to completion in the woodshop. I had to make several forms for the steam bent parts for the first attempt at a "snowshoe rocking chair". There were a couple of hiccups, but things came together pretty well.

I have a decent assortment of logs on hand (including pine, hemlock, cedar, basswood, red & white oak, maple, maple burl and black walnut) so if you have a project in mind and need some lumber, I may be able to help so feel free to contact me.

My daughter Mallorie and her husband Jason recently made me a proud papa and Mallorie asked if I could make a crib for my new grandson. I had some nice, figured maple that I sawed into slabs about two years ago that I thought would be perfect for this special project. I have included a few photos of the process from start to finish.

I have had a few people reach out to me with questions about the steam bending process when making the trout net frames. I was doing some bending yesterday and my daughter, Amber, asked if she could take a video. I thought I would post the video so you can see the process if you are interested.

I first became involved in the net making craft about 3 years ago when a friend brought over a trout net and asked if I could make something similar. I gave it a whirl and the net turned out really nice. Since that time, I have made several nets for family, friends and fundraisers but never considered trying to sell any nets. This past Christmas season a couple of people familiar with my nets asked if they could purchase nets to give a Christmas gifts. That has led to a few other people asking to purchase nets and also some requests for additional styles to choose from. I am currently making two styles of nets and have a third style hopefully coming out in the near future.

The original "Trout" series net is approx. 33" in total length with a 14" handle and a tear-drop hoop measuring approx. 19" X 11". A quite unique feature of this net is a snowshoe style upturn of the tip of the hoop.

I just finished the first net in the new "Brook Trout" series. This net measures approx. 28-29" in total length with a 12" handle and an almost rectangular shaped hoop measuring approx. 16 1/2" X 9".

Each net is handcrafted by me utilizing locally sourced hardwoods including white ash, cherry and black walnut. Since each net is handcrafted, there are some slight variations between each net.
