CNC MACHINING

CNC stands for computer numerical controlled machine. It uses a setup of ball screws and stepper motors to create extremely precise movements that can be used to guide sharp tools. These sharp tools make cuts on the raw material to make the design you are seeking.

At ISS we are currently using CNC milling operations to assist our customers in making quick designs. We only need a CAD file and we can do the rest. Here are some features of CNC machining here:

We don't charge a setup fee. Whatever labor is needed to get the design ready to be machined is factored into the quote.

If you paid for a fixture here, you own it. We do not hold a fixture if you have paid for it entirely and requested it's return.

Our CNC milling is much faster than 3D printing. So for people who are in a rush please consider this option.

PCB DESIGN

-At ISS we create PCB drawings, layouts, schematics, parts listings (BOM), and more.

-We export sch, brd, and ge**er files and primarily use Eaglecad merged with Fusion 360 software.

-We do convert some of these files over to 3D PCB drawings in Fusion for enhanced enclosure design and mechatronics work.

-The idea of having ISS do this is to make sure electronics and manufacturing agendas align in a holistic and efficient fashion.

-We strive to make ISS a "one-stop-shop" for an inventors/companies/entrepreneurs design needs.

WHAT YOU NEED TO GET STARTED...

-Any schematics, drawings, PDFs, STEP files, pictures (with a measuring device preferably) to give us an understanding of what you want.

-Parts listing or bill of materials (BOM). We do part selection here so we can help. If you don't have a BOM you can always create on using Arrow's free BOM tool that can be found at: https://www.arrow.com/en/bom-tool/.

-If you have parts numbers we can work with that too. We prefer to source parts from www.mouser.com and www.digikey.com. The more parts we can get "off the shelf" that have CAD files the cheaper and faster your project will be.

-Currently, we do outsource PCB fabrication. If you have some company in mind that you really like please let us know. We'll do our best to facilitate our work with them.

(PART 2) WHAT PATENT ASSISTANCE DOES ISS GIVE?
Clients working at ISS are at total liberty to pick which ever patent they prefer that's within the standards of the USPTO. Also, ISS can assist with all three patents above in these specific areas:

USPTO Compliant 2D Fabrication Prints (i.e. blueprints). This includes 2D line drawings with bubble numbers and leader lines. This also includes annotation (notes) that you normally see on approved patent drawings. These can be seen in our gallery and on the company portfolio on Freelancer.com

Technical description of the design or prototype. This includes a detailed description of your design components, functions, and any other relevant descriptive data for a Lawyer's review.

USPTO Pro Bono program/Attorney Recruitment. This is a great program for you DIY people and small business owners. ISS also can help you find a lawyer in your area that will aid you in your pursuit to achieving your patenting goals.

Provisional Patent Application Packet. As I heard a former boss once say, "Paperwork is what makes the whole world go round." And you guessed it, you'll have to do some paperwork to meet USPTO standards. This ISS issued packet provides you all the paperwork you need to fill out plus valuable references to USPTO's guidance for proper patenting work.

ISS has helped customers in the past getting client's setup and adequately supported to patenting work. We are more than confident we can adequately assist you in securing your intellectual properties rights.

(PART 1) WHAT PATENT ASSISTANCE DOES ISS GIVE?
I know by now some of you are about ready to pull out your hair over all this patenting stuff. And ISS is here to help demystify and clear up misconceptions about patenting. In the American patent system there are only three patents: there's no such thing as a provisional patent. What people are commonly referring to is a provisional patent application. This is not the same as a utility or design patent. The United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) has these definitions for patenting work:

Provisional Patent Application: A provisional patent application allows you to file without a formal patent claim, oath or declaration, or any information disclosure (prior art) statement.

Utility Patent: may be granted to anyone who invents or discovers any new and useful process, machine, article of manufacture, or composition of matter, or any new and useful improvement thereof;

Design Patent: may be granted to anyone who invents a new, original, and ornamental design for an article of manufacture.

WHY SHOULD I INVEST IN TESTING?

1. Testing enables you to certify your design. To certify means that you are validating your design in objective terms of quality, safety, and functionality. You might have seen the different groups out there that deal with design quality like ISO, DIN, IEC, NEC, ANSI, CAS, ASME, and other "alphabet soup" agencies.

2. Testing allows you to proactively screen your design against trolls, customer returns, and bad reviews. The more you test, the less you are leaving to chance. The more you mitigate your design risks the less of chance you'll encounter issues.

3. Testing is not the same as assembly. Assembly is the physical assembly of the prototype or final product for future testing. Please don't get sucked into the school of thought that assembly is a substitute for real world testing. Testing is different and it should be viewed as such.

4. Testing doesn't always have to take the form of labs, wind tunnels, and other traditional testing areas. Focus groups can provide reviews, complaint-worthy issues about your design, and give you some constructive feedback. In the end it's better to have a focus group negatively review your design than have a real customer do it.

5. For those that can't afford a focus group or certifying agency consider asking trusted friends, family members, or even coworkers. Just ask them, "Can you please review my product, use it, and tell me what you think? Don't worry about hurting my feelings or offending me: I just want to know exactly what you think." And try not to be too critical of the feedback, but rather objectively evaluate if their feedback will help you to be more profitable.

6. I have found that it's best to test designs in "worst case scenarios." As Murphy's Law says, "If it can go wrong, it will go wrong" so don't leave anything reasonable to chance and make your future more secure. Don't leave anything to doubt so test, test, test, and test until you have no doubts about your design! Finally, for every defective feature you find in your design is one less product returned, one less bad review, or less day troubled with a customer complaint.

To summarize: when in doubt, test!

The picture shows a six axis articulated robot used at ISS. Plus, there's an assorted array of end effectors with associated tools a robot can use. Also, there's a hand sander that has a specialized end effector for doing robotic sanding. Finally, a Raspberry Pi 3B+ has been included (with an assembly board) for viewing purposes.
