**What does back-to-school season mean for YOU?** 🎒

For the kids, it means new classes, new routines, and seeing friends again.

For me? A quiet house when I’m working from home and a significant reduction in my role as the midday taxi service. 😂🚕

Necessary conversations are rarely difficult because of the words we say. 😮‍💨

They're difficult because of the assumptions we make before we ever say them. 🤨

Before your next conversation:

• Check your assumptions.

• Lead with curiosity instead of certainty.

• Listen to understand, not just to respond.

• Focus on behaviors, not personalities.

• End with clear next steps.

Last month I attended a conference for Strengths Coaches in beautiful San Diego, where I had the opportunity to lead three mini breakout sessions on Emotional Intelligence. 🌴 🌊 ☀️

We explored the faces of emotions, how our CliftonStrengths influence the emotions we experience, and how self-awareness helps us respond with intention instead of reacting. 🤨 😑 😮‍💨 😵‍💫 😵 🤬 😁

After the sessions, I enjoyed dessert, coffee, and a few quiet minutes in the sunshine. This is your reminder that self care doesn't have to be extravagant. Sometimes it's as simple as slowing down, grabbing a snack, and appreciating the moment. ☕ 😎

One of the best productivity habits I’ve built?
I turned off almost all notifications on my phone and computer.

No email dings.
No pop ups.
No constant interruptions.

I only allow text messages and truly urgent alerts to show up. Everything else waits until *I decide* to check it.

I see time management and productivity struggles in every industry and at every level. Most people don’t actually have a time management problem. They have an interruption problem.

Every notification breaks focus, and refocusing takes more energy than people realize.

Turn off the noise.
Protect your attention.
Create space for deep work.

Your phone and computer should be tools that support your priorities, not distractions that control your day.

Delegation and candor go hand in hand.

You can’t delegate well without trust. And trust grows through honest, meaningful communication.

Healthy teams create space for feedback that is clear, kind, and productive.

High trust teams are willing to say:
• Here’s what’s working
• Here’s what needs to improve
• Here’s how we can grow

The best teams don’t avoid hard conversations. They learn how to have them well.

Delegation isn't just about getting something off your plate. It's about creating opportunities.

When you delegate, you're giving someone else the chance to learn, gain confidence, build new skills, and grow in their career. Even if they can't do the task completely on their own yet, there is still value in involving them. Growth happens through experience.

Delegation is a gift to leaders, too. It creates capacity, allows you to focus on higher priorities, and helps prevent burnout.

If you're holding onto every task because it's faster or easier to do it yourself, consider this: Are you simply getting the work done, or are you helping someone else grow?

The best leaders don't just accomplish tasks. They develop people.

Professionalism still matters.

If someone gives you their time, mentorship, advice, or connections, show up prepared. Preparation communicates respect. Curiosity communicates growth. Follow-through communicates character. You do not need to have all the answers to make a strong impression. What stands out is effort, intentionality, and engagement.

A few simple habits that set true professionals apart:

• Arrive prepared with questions or ideas

• Research the person or organization beforehand

• Be engaged and present in the conversation

• Send a thank you afterward

• Follow up on advice or action items discussed

These things may seem small, but they build trust, credibility, and opportunities over time. Professionalism can absolutely be learned and those willing to learn it will stand out quickly.

So much fun digging into Emotional Intelligence with the team at Hope Community Church!

We mixed learning with a little competition by doing a “match the face to the EQ results” activity. They nailed 6 out of 8 correctly. 👏

It was such a great reminder of how well healthy teams really know and understand each other.

Hope Church is my longest-standing client, which made this activity even more meaningful. I know this team so well, and it’s always exciting to keep bringing fresh ideas, new conversations, and interactive learning experiences to a group that is so committed to growth.

Grateful for the trust, the laughs, and the willingness to keep learning together.
